The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at the new Ditson School on Cook Street. Plenty of parking.
Just finished a bit of a climb, but not too bad
Left turn and wander through some wetlands. Bring your mosquito repellant in the summer.
Be sure to stop and look in all directions here. This is a blind intersection.
If you want to miss the top of the hill, cut to the right through the parking lot.
Left onto 129. Lots of traffic - ride predictably.
If you turn right at George Brown St. coming up you can save a few miles!
Another chance to shorten the route if you turn right on Andover.
Watch out, busy intersection.
Another shortcut coming up - turn right on Pond St. and stay on Pond until it intersects Whipple. Pond has some rough spots, but you can usually dodge them because there isn't much traffic.
Look to the right to see the North Cemetery.
Bit of a hike coming up as you go over the tracks. The sports field on the right is busy on Saturdays.
Get up some speed before you hit this hill!
Turn right on Whipple - heading back now.
Road is a bit rough here with cracks sealed with tar, especially in the early spring.
Be sure to stop - dangerous intersection.
The next quarter-mile crosses over the Shawsheen River. When it's in flood stage, you can't go here.
The map says the Arkansas Rd and Vermont Ln. connect to South St, but in reality they don't.
If you want to add a couple of miles, turn left on Lake St. and go around Silver Lake, coming back on Grove Ave. Very pretty, especially in the fall.
Deer are often sighted along this stretch, especially early in the morning.
This should look familiar soon.
Almost home.
