The way points of this bicycle route:
Ride begins outside NC Museum of Art. Fat tires might be useful today, as Umstead's trails are unpaved. This is an out-and-back ride, so go as far as you like, then turn around to return.
Head west, crossing Blue Ridge Rd onto Reedy Creek Rd. A 10' paved bike path, the Reedy Creek Greenway, follows the road.
The greenway turns left and tunnels under Edwards Mill Rd.
Cross Reedy Creek Rd and continue left (west) on the greenway.
Continue straight, entering Umstead State Park. This main trail is generally firm, wide and straight. Check a map to venture out onto side trails, which can be narrow, steep and soft.
A few hills and switchback curves will require your complete attention as you cross Crabtree Creek.
Airport overlook. See planes over Raleigh-Durham Intl Airport (RDU). Turning around here would give you a 12 mile ride total.
Exit Umstead Park.
Ride over I-40. If you turn around here, your total for the day will be 15.4 miles.
Turn right onto the Black Creek Trail, part of the Town of Cary's greenway system.
Remember to call out "on your left" before passing pedestrians.
Lake Crabtree is on your right.
Pass under Weston Pkwy.
Pass under Cary Pkwy.
Congratulations if you've made it 10.2 miles to Dynasty Dr. There's a gap in the greenways here, so it might be well to turn around now for the return trip.
