Durham

Begin at Marriott/Civic Center Plaza

Parrish St. was known as the Black Wall Street for its African-American businesses

Founded in 1850, the NC Railroad put Durham Station on the map. Durham in turn put brightleaf tobacco on the map.

This was home to the American Tobacco Co. Now converted to offices, shops & restaurants.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Home of AAA baseball.

American Tobacco Trail. This 1905 rail spur became NC's most popular rail-trail in 2000. <triangletrails.org>

American Tobacco Historic District

Step into the U shaped American Tobacco campus and follow the fountains.

Brightleaf Square

Remodeled tobacco warehouses.

Former Liggett & Meyers tobacco buildings now upscale condos.

Railroad tracks (owned by Norfolk Southern) formed a beltline around Durham's old tobacco and textile district.

The old Durham Athletic Park. "Bull Durham" was filmed here. Note deluxe sidewalk treatment--the Downtown Connector Trail.

Follow paved trail through Durham Central Park, home to the Farmers Market. <durhamcentralpark.org>
