The way points of this bicycle route:
Start the route here, and ride on sealed road to Deep stream, or start at Deep Stream. Caution: This route climbs to high altitude and crosses a mountain range. Take usual precautions with regard to possible weather changes in alpine conditions.
Road surface changes from seal to gravel. The climb up the Rock & Pillar Range starts. The road from this point is classed as a dry weather road and is closed by locked gate from 1 June to 1 October
Road on the left near here takes you to the dam and lake shore.
There's an old hotel and jail on private property here. It was used in the 1800s to store gold on it's way back to Dunedin from the gold fields in Central Otago. Head up the valley (Nth) a few km and turn left onto Linnburn Runs rd. to pick up the Danstan road again and cross Rough Ridge to the Ida Valley
