Dundonald Lugton loop
A mixture of main and rural roads. Leaving Dundonald for Crosshouse is a good warm up. Crosshouse to Knockentiber back toward Kilmarnock adds a bit of undulation then a slow climb on to Kilmaurs. On to Cunningham Head nice and rural, scenic with sparse traffic but they like to speed on the quiet road. The road across to the junction with A736 is similarly rural and quiet, not in good condition. The junction brings you out at the Torranyard Caravan Park. Nice Indian Restaurant there as well. The A736 is a busy road so take care. Continues a long steady climb towards Lugton passing Auchentiber and Burnouse.Lugton to Gateside and Beith a main road but a bit quieter. A bit mor in the way of undulation. From Beith descend into Glengarnock and Kilbirnie before turning onto the Dalry road. Couple of hills on the way. Dalry to Kilwinning back on the main road again. Also a couple of hills there but again beware of traffic. Kwinning to Irvine pretty flat as is the route through Irvine and on to Dreghorn. Reasonable flat through to Springside with a bit of a hill coming into Crosshouse. Through Crosshouse and past the Hospital. Turn right atr the roundabout back towards Dundonald on the Troon Road via Gatehead.by djcozzer
