The way points of this bicycle route:
Left turn toward Drummin.
This is some remote country - sheep ranches on the sides of mountains. Note - a tough little climb is coming up quick.
This should be at the top of the pass - now you have a steep, curvy downhill along the side of the mountain. The valley below on your right presents a fantastic view.
You have a choice here - straight-ahead and you'll be back in Westport in about 14 km; turn left and you are in for about 15 km of headwind and over another pass just to get back to the road along Clew Bay (East of Louisburg). Guess what I chose.
Somewhere along here you'll have another stiff climb, but you'll have the back side of Croagh Patrick on your right and incredible views all around. I never saw a vehicle on this road the day I rode it.
The downhill is fairly straight and steep. You can really fly on this drop, but the pavement isn't the smoothest, so be careful.
Right turn here to get back to the main road as quickly as possible. There is one more short climb ahead.
Right turn. Now you should have a tailwind and you'll be able to open it up for a fast ride into Westport Quay.
This last route was an optional ride. I got a late start, so I had our guide drop me at Doo Lough Pass, instead of riding a loop.
