The way points of this bicycle route:
Starting at the Statehouse, not far from Five Points, Elmwood Park, or other points. Roll right up Assembly Street. This ride is good for Northerly winds, and can be cut from 90 to 60 miles by taking Pharr Road at Point 64 on this route.
Downtown traffic isn't bad at all.
Right on Elmwood, but immediate left!
Take the fork to the left, River Drive, or go down a block, if congested.
Enjoy the downhill here, because across the bridge is a long, first climb.
Focus on the top here, and don't let the cars bother you.
Careful with shopping traffic here.
It gets wider and smoother here, and from here until the return back into the city.
The forest to the right is an MTB favourite, and you'll see cars with bikes on them around here. This road is fast and smooth.
Stay to the right here, unless you want to take an extra loop through Irmo
Stay on Broad River Road here, or 176, not 76, unless you want to go up to Chapin and loop back.
Rural traffic now, and beautiful.
Alternatively, you can turn right at Pharr (213) here and cut off 30 miles.
Small town USA. Stops for supplies are available.
Right on 34 here, out in the middle of nowhere, as it were.
You can continue to Winnsboro and down 321, but 215 is less travelled.
All great riding through here. If the wind is Northerly, you should be flying!
Getting back into North Columbia area now.
There are some long climbs coming up.
Traffic is heavier here, and some last climbs will have you mentally taking stock of your refrigerator!
This near century brought us back to the Historic Statehouse in downtown Columbia.
