There are plenty of "Watch for Bicyclists" signs on this road and is part of the Allegheny Heritage Trail.
When you get to the loop here, you'll need to take the gated entrance to Frick Park. As soon as you enter the park, the path splits - follow it right. It's a dirt path but it only lasts a few yards. This will drop you straight onto Homewood Cemetery.
This is all climbing through here. Keep a look out for Freemason tombs and modern day biker / gardeners...
As you turn on to Beechwood Blvd, you'll have your bike lane back (though cars are often parked in it.)

As you see the sign for Schenly Park, dip over the grass hill here to the street below. After you go through the light, vere to the left and get on the trail. At the bottom of the trail go right (passed the Schenly Park Pool) and then left underneath the foot tunnel. Make a right out of the tunnel to go around the playground and then a left to get back on the road (over the bridge - take the sidewalk on the left to look down over a lake.)
Traffic Starts to pick up here so be careful and ride as though you were a car. Even though the traffic is heavy, you can often move faster than cars due to the amount of stop lights.
This is as suburban as you get while still being in the city. No bike lanes but pretty relaxed streets.
