The way points of this bicycle route:
From the intersection of Riverside Dr and Arthur St Head through the "Road Closed" barriers to Arthur St, a bike with panniers can JUST squeeze through. Some trailers won't make it. Much of Arthur St is blue metal or pot-holed. Consistent wet weather can put some of it underwater. But at least now its closed to motor vehicles the surface shouldn't keep getting giant holes in it and its quiet.
Theres another "Road Closed" barrier here. July 2009 the concrete barrier has been nudged so its no longer necessary to dismount to get through.
Right into Rickard Rd.
Left off Rickard St just before reaching Newbridge Rd. New concrete path replaces the previously rough dirt path besides Newbridge Rd to cross Milperra Bridge.
After crossing Milperra Bridge use the new concrete path (too recent for satellite image) that loops back under Milperra Bridge
Path intersection, veer left.
sculpture ahead!
Left at the path T-intersection.
Path goes under Milperra Bridge.
Right at the path intersection to use the shared bike/ped path besides Henry Lawson Drive.
Cross Auld St.
Use the narrow path besides Henry Lawson Drive.
Take care crossing the bridge, the path is narrow.
After crossing the bridge the path veers away a little from Henry Lawson Drive.
Path crosses Keys Parade.
Path ends, turn left into Raleigh Rd.
Right at Henry Lawson Drive. Take care, traffic speed is often high and they sometimes make last second lane changes.
Veer left off Henry Lawson Dr across the grass to Ingram Ave.
Left into Whittle Ave.
Right into Keysor Pl.
Left into Bullecourt Ave.
Roundabout, cross Ashford Ave, continue along Bullecourt Ave. Shops, takeways nearby. Bakery opens early.
Watch out you don't get squeezed here near the right turn lane into the uni.
Roundabout, turn right into Horsley Rd.
Rondabout, veer left and use the slip lane to turn left into Beaconsfield St.
Intersection of Beaconsfield St and Marigold St. For some reason I can't fathom, lots of car drivers seem unable to see a cyclist approaching in clear view from the west, and will pull out in front of you.
Theres a pedestrian crossing and some small islands in front of you. To your right is a footpath to Wall Ave to the south.
Traffic lights, cross Queen St.
Road narrowing, pedestrian crossing. Lots of inattentive drivers at peak school start and finish time.
Traffic lights, cross The River Rd to Doyle Rd.
Roundabout at intersection of Mackenzie St, Lester Rd and Doyle Red. Veer left (not hard left) to Lester Rd.
Right into Cahors Rd.
Cahors Rd ends, continue ahead, use the path that runs between Playford Park and Padstow TAFE to where Cahors Rd starts again.
Pond on your right, ducks and geese often sleep close to the fence.
Cahors Rd starts again.
Roundabout, continue along Cahors Rd.
Veer left to continue along Cahors Rd.
Cahors Rd ends at the corner, Banks Rd starts. Padstow Station is on your right.
Right into Padstow Park. Theres no pram ramp so you'll have to jump the kerb. Head across the grass to the gap in the fence.
Concrete path and a tight corner. Tandems, trikes and some trailers will have trouble getting around.
Left just before you reach the toilets/change rooms, use the path towards the units.
Left onto the driveway.
Cross Davies Rd to Bridge St. Davies Rd gets busy, take care, you'll probably have get halfway across then wait for a gap in traffic.
Bridge St ends, turn right onto the path.
Boardwalk starts. Boardwalk can be slippery in the wet. Be aware that bikes are banned from being ridden on the boardwalk :-( . I still ride it, pull up for pedestrians.
This corner is often slippery.
Use the bridge to cross Salt Pan Creek. There are about 4 steps or a ramp with tight turns to get to the bridge. 06/07/09 the boardwalk south under the rail bridge is closed till approx 2011 for K2RQ work.
Be very careful in the wet, the boardwalk can be very slippery here.
Left onto the boardwalk.
Boardwalk ends, path continues. Seats, shelter, BBQ and water nearby.
Small bridge over creek. Sometimes you can see eels here.
Right onto the short path towards William Rd.
Left onto William Rd.
