Chicago: Good Roads TT (Northside)

The way points of this bicycle route:

Edgewater

This is about a 22 mile TT, using the best roads to Morton Grove and back. Try to do the loop in as good a time as possible, given that this is in the city, Northside. Works in either direction, depending on your whim.

Right on Ridge, tight turn.

West Ridge

Pratt is smooth, without too many stops. Usually lots of traffic, though.

Take Kedze to Howard.

Rough crossing of the channel here.

McCormick is passable here, but the path runs right along the road, and is so much nicer.

Oakton is much smoother than Church, if you can get through this intersection to enjoy it.

Skokie

What the heck? Take Skokie Blvd up to Church. It's actually the smoothest road in this area, with the fewest stops.

From here, Church is nice, and the traffic thins out.

Morton Grove

Beckwith is nice and smooth.

Leigh is just great here! You can insert sprint intervals here, with no worries about cars, as there is a double bike lane off to the East side of the roadway.

Alternatively, I do sprints and turn around to go back the way I came - seems a bit faster, probably because there are fewer stops, or more right turns.

The first right here is probably easiest, but the road isn't perfect. Ferris is better, if you like.

Edgebrook

An unbelievable group of roads and rail here. Keep straight across Devon and the rail, and look for the sharp right onto Central. Cars will be aggressive here, so be visible and keep to the right!

Tough left turn, but Elston is a good road here. I'd take the sidewalk in a pinch, or go down to Bryn Mawr for an easier left.

Just for fun, a hairpin left with no signal. If you get it without slowing or stopping, this will test your cornering ability!

Forest Glen

A bit of a breather is good here, getting to Bryn Mawr.

The bike path, Kercheval and Kenton, to Bryn Mawr, is AWFUL, and once you're on Bryn Mawr, there are too many stops. I've changed this to just use Peterson instead.

Peterson is high traffic, but much faster and easier. If it's dark, I'd take Peterson only to California, left, and up to Granville.

If too dark, I'd turn left here. The push through Ridge to Clark would be too risky at night, unless you've got lights - but even then...

Careful! Get into what looks like a left turn lane, but go straight through, across Ridge, to Clark. Very exciting!

Careful with the left here, as the car beside you might be going straight!

Edgewater

Hopefully, even with all the stops and obstacles, this took LESS than 2 hours to do a mere 23 miles at cruising/TT speed.
