The way points of this bicycle route:
follow the Avenue Verte Sud out of (and back into) the city of Chambery
continue on Avenue Verte Sud
careful crossing traffic and railroad tracks, then a couple of tight curves, finishing toward the Right to continue on the Avenue Verte Sud.
continue on Avenue Verte Sud bicycle path
bike path takes a clever way across the Autoroute
official Lac St Andre route turns right to follow the Autoroute going south, but this route turns Left to visit pleasant farmland. Next two sections of road get lots of high-speed vehicle traffic -- to avoid it, stay on the official Lac St Andre route instead.
this road section gets lots of high speed vehicle traffic
this section of road gets lots of high-speed vehicle traffic
rejoin official Lac St Andre route
this left turn leaves the official Lac St Andre route. To avoid dangerous intersection in St Baldoph later, just stay on the official bike route.
High speed traffic on this road section
Apremont is well-known wine-producing area of Savoie
for bakery + grocery + tabac, continue straight a short ways to next roundabout
this road section gets significant high-speed traffic. Watch for X sign warning of "priorite a droite" -- at the next intersection, must yield to vehicles coming from Right side (even though there's no Yield sign there)
tricky dangerous intersection, because must yield to traffic coming from Right side (even though there's no Yield sign) -- while climbing up a steep hill -- then immediately make a Left turn across much vehicle traffic to get onto the bike path. If in any doubt about how to handle it, consider getting off the bike and walking it. Or to avoid this intersection, stay on the official Lac St Andre back a ways when crossing Route d'Apremont.
rejoin official Lac St Andre route and follow the Avenue Verte Sud bicycle path back north to the city of Chambery

pretty farmland +vineyards + mountain views accessed from a key city of Savoie. From the city of Chambery a bike path goes south out to mostly quiet roads through farms and vineyards -- but it has some sections with significant high-speed traffic, and one notably dangerous intersection. Views of three mountain groups each with a different character: Bauges, Belledonne, and Chartreuse, including a great angle on Le Granier peak. Some sections follow the official Lac St Andre bike route - (which avoids much of the high-speed traffic and the tricky intersection).
This route not checked by me since 2007.
