The way points of this bicycle route:
Start: Burnley Ln Chadderton
Turn right at lights onto Mill Brow.
Follow road under m/way.
Start climing up hill. Beware of the speed camera.
Turn left onto Rochdale Ln.
Cross over main road at lights and continue up Dogford Rd.
Turn right onto Low Cromton Rd. This road soon turns into a farm track.
At this point the road turns into a farm track. Look to your left into the field you will see some Llama type animals. Beware these animals spit.
Follow the twist and turns of the track.
Turn right onto Thornham Rd. At this point you should be nicely warmed up even on a cold day.
Turn left onto Rochdale Rd.
Turn right onto Northdowns Rd
Turn left onto Rushcroft Road
Keep left
Turn right onto Moss Gate
Take the track to the right still Moss Gate
Turn right ontoSmall Brook
Turn left through opening in fence and follow path to the right entering wooded area.
Turn left and follow the singletrack through the woods.
At this point turn right down the steps and right again onto the singletrack
At the end of the singletrack turn left onto the tarmac path to the park gates
Go through the gates up the sort cobbled street and turn left onto Milnrow Rd.
Follow the road to 2 Bridges Rd and turn right.
Turn right into small industrial estate
Turn right onto Bethany Ln. This is a cobbled lane but soon changes into a tarmac lane.
At this piont you start to climb a short killer hill.
At this point cross over the main road and follow the lane to the right this will bring you to Ogden resevoir
Start of another climb
Follow the road to the right heading for Kitcliffe resevoir
Keep climbing towards Piethorn Res
Turn left and go over the stile. Look to your right you should see some fly fishermen, if your lucky you will see them bring the fish in. Look up to your right and you'll see Holme Moss TV mast. Thats another great ride.
Turn left and follow the doubletrack and over a couple more stiles, beware of the sheep poo. Nice easy ride.
Follow the track up the hill to the right.
This is a cross roads although it doesn't show it on the map. Go through the gate and follow the track down then up, should get some speed up here.
Nice down hill section but get up on the ridge to the left and follow the sheep track down its far better than the track. Look to your left you'll see the tracks that lead to other routes, the M62 m/way and Holingworth lake.
Turn sharp left and go for it, but slow down for the gate.
Keep left and follow the track up the hill and to the right. When your at the top of the hill you'll be able to see the M62 viaduct. Quite impressive.
At this point head down the hill and let go under the viaduct and over the cattle grid. beware of snake bites over the cattle grid, there's a bar missing.
Beware here got to slow down bad bend.
Keep on the lane with the lake to your left at this point it is a nature reserve and you'll see all types of birds and small mammals.
About 200 yards down this lane is a cafe and toilet facilities.
On your right is the Wine Press pub. Turn left here and follow the road around the lake.
There's a few cafes and a chip shop here and the entrance to the lake harbour. You'll see wind surfers, rowers and sailing dingys here.
Turn left here to follow the path around the lake. There's also a nice pub/restaraunt on your left called the Millers.
There's a pick-nic area, cafe and toilets at this point and good views of the lake and surounding area.
At this point turn left you should recognise this lane. Retrace the route until you reach the pub/restaraunt on your left.
Leaving the lake go up Milbury Dr
There's a NO CYCLING sign here but ignore it, it's probably illegal anyway.
Turn Left onto the main road, beware here this road can be busy.
Follow the road to the first lane on the right.
Turn right down the lane. this lane is full of pot holes and ruts. good for full sussers.
Turn left down the cobbled street and past a grand stone building on the left.
Turn left to join the canal towpath immediatley after the hump back bridge that crosses the canal.
Keep on the towpath.
Keep on the towpath with the canal on the left.
Turn left onto Oldham Rd, another busy road.
Turn left onto broad Ln.
Turn right at the mini roundabout.
Turn right down track at the side of the stone cottages.
at the end of the lane turn right onto the road.
Turn left onto Thornham Ln
At this point the road turns into a rough lane and starts to climb up to Tandle Hill Country Park.
Go through the gate and take the lane straight ahead. This lane goes down then up through a wooded section of the park. You can divert to the right up to the monument on top of the hill. from this point ther are great views to the west over Lancashire and Cheshire, even the Welsh mountains on a clear day.
At the top of the hill follow the path to the left then to the right through the woods.
At this point the track exits the woods with a nice straight decent down to an open field to the left.
Turn left into the field an go for it towards the clump of trees slightly to the right and then through the trees with the stone column on your right, keep the speed up down the singletrack to the gate on your right.

Go through the gate and straight on down the lane
Turn left under the m/way then left again and follow the lane to the right.
Go through the farm yard and down the narrow lane. Follow this lane until you come to the canal.
At this point the lane becomes a bit muddy and slippery.
Turn left onto the canal towpath.
Follow the canal towpath.
At this point you can see the original victorian iron railway bridge, known locally as "th'iron Dongger"
At this point leave the canal towpath and take the farm track to the left then to the right.
Turn right down the farm track until you see the entrance to Chadderton Hall Park on your right.
Enter the park to your right and go down the track turning slightly left at the bottom an through the river then turn left onto the path.
Follow the path through the park.
This is the oldest part of Chadderton and was the place that the river Irk burst its banks in the 19th century washing away the zoo and boating lake to the old Chadderton Hall. Not long after the Hall was demolished. The only structure that is still standing are the original gate post at the entrance to the park on Cadderton Hall Road.
Go up the hill to the left and then to the right.
Follow the lane staight on to the junction.
Turn right onto Mill Brow up the hill to the lights.
Turn left at the lights onto Burnley Ln.
Finish point. 25 miles completed in about 2.5 hours. Best time to go is on a Sunday morning about 8ish.
