South Elma

RIGHT on Wakefield Rd. - X Chehalis River

Elma

X Hwy. 12

downtown Elma

LEFT (west) on Main St. *lots of murals of the good ol' days, views of the WHOOPS cooling towers, fun!*

turnoff for Schafer State Park - showers & camping - a fairly easy & scenic 7 mile ride. Park nothing too terribly impressive but a decent place to overnight.

Montesano

LEFT on Main St. *good place to git some grub; impressive old city hall*

X Hwy. 12

X - Hwy 12 - continue on Devonsire Rd.

becomes Central Park Drive - continue west - road is really odd through here (not in a bad way) as i recall - you'll have to see it for yourself, I can't explain.

Join Hwy. 12 - continue west

Aberdeen

X - the Mighty Wishkah river

continue straight on Wishkah St.

becomes Port Industrial Rd., follow along the harbor

Right on 23rd

LEFT on Hwy. 101

LEF on Hwy. 109

great views of Grays Harbor for the next few miles.

RIGHT on Powell Rd. (toward Tulips)

LEFT on Ocean Beach Rd.

bear RIGHT, continue on Ocean Beach Rd. (Copalis Beach Rd. straight)

lots of clear cuts & abandoned cars through here

Pacific Beach

Junction with Hwy 109 - eponymous State Park on the beach with showers, camping. - there's a real strange but pretty good place to eat dinner up the hill at the Military (Coast Guard?) Station.

Pacific Beach

head south on Hwy. 109 - *** interesting sidetrip (i haven't done it so I'm speculating...) north on Hwy 109 up the coast about 15 miles to the end of the road - not paved all the way? ***

seems like there should be views along here but I don't remember any? ... it's been a few years.

Junction with Copalis Beach Rd. - continue south on Hwy 109

Copalis Beach

can't remember what's here...maybe a funky laundromat & convenience store..?

RIGHT on Hwy. 115 (North Jetty Rd.)

Ocean City State Park - camping

Ocean Shores

ugh. not my favorite part of this trip - trapped like a tourist!

LEFT on Marine View Drive - follow signs for ferry to Westport

Long Beach - Westport ferry

a great ride across the mouth of the harbor (Summer only!)

Westport

south on Hwy 105 - *big fishing fleet here*

continue South on Hwy 105

Twin Harbors Beach State Park - camping

Greyland Beach State Park - camping, showers. a pretty nice place to stay. Why do they let everyone drive on the beach around here?

The tourist destination time forgot. Buy something from these people, please.

Tokeland turnoff

a side trip to Tokeland, a mere 3 miles distant, is recommended. Excellent stately old lodge (the Tokeland Inn?) with pretty good food.

Willapa Bay - really beautiful, lots of birds, little traffic. Best part of the trip.

Raymond

a strange but congenial place.

various services - a decaying charm to the place.

this could be an interesting short cut to the east - but I haven't been on it.

turnoff to Doty

short side trip - old logging outpost

Rainbow Falls State Park - camping, showers. Pretty nice spot. I find the Washington State Parks coin-op showers (2 bits per 3 minutes) thoroughly irritating.

RIGHT on Hwy 506 / Boisfort Rd.

Curtis

nice little general store here, worth hanging out for a bit - continue south on Boisfort Rd.

somewhere in here we encountered a goat blockade - the billy goat was big & mean but finally, reluctantly, he let us pass.

Boisfort has become Wildwood Rd.

still on Hwy. 506

junction with Ryderwood Rd.

if you're curious, ride a couple miles over to Ryderwood - a sleepy retirement community.

Vader

junction with Winlock / Vader Rd.

sidetrip in to Castle Rock (1 mile) is worth it - cool old downtown.

Longview

RIGHT on Cowlitz Way

straight on Washington Way

LEFT on 15th - follow signs for Longview Bridge to Oregon

access to Bridge over the Columbia river - this was pretty scary when we rode it (on the narrow sidewalk) but I think it's been improved for cyclists since then. If you don't like heights this may give you pause.

Oregon

Rainier

various services

continue South/East on Hwy 30

Trojan-land

site of the decommisioned Trojan nuke. Cooling tower dynamited in 2005.
