The way points of this bicycle route:
Start just across the Devereaux Beach Casueway or park in the beach lot if its the off season or after hours. (Dont park there during the beach times, its a rip off). Park just across the causeway on the side road all day long. The Marblehead police patrol frequently and your car will be safe so long as you lock your doors. Continue Around Marblehead Neck to the lighthouse park (Check out the Audubon Bird Sanctuary)....the lighthouse offers great sunsets on the return trip.
After leaving the neck you will turn right on Atlantic ave, pass Seaside Park turn right on Chestnut and left onto Water St which becomes Gregory Ave . This will lead you on a journey back in time through an old sea captain's town of Marblehead with its windy twsty streets you will meander your way through toward Front St. ....Glimpses of the harbor can be seen and there is a great view to be had if you climb Crocker Park. It is worth a visit. A true hidden jewel of New England. Not many people, even locals dont know about it.
Continute onto Front St and continue to Ft Sewell and old Fort in the Revolutionary War. From there go onto Orine St. And Climb to the top of the Old Burial Ground for a great view. Take time to climb up Fountain park as well across from the burial ground (follow the stone steps). From there work your way around the big marblehead neck towards Salem
The total ride for the Cape Ann Crunch is 142 miles. You can perhaps stay overnight in a hotel, for a cheap price I'd recommend calling the Crow's Nest (the bar in the book the perfect storm) they have a basic room for $40 a night. right in Gloucester.
