The way points of this bicycle route:
Meet at the George St end, outside the GPO
Turn right into Hickson Rd. Sweeping right hander to go under the bridge.
Traffic light here. Hmmmm
Right turn. Climb to the Pallisades.
Right turn then left into Sussex
Be in the centre lane to avoid being stuck behind a left-turning car.
Left towards Darling Hrbour
Take the first exit and then right at the roundabout
Right at the roundabout. Ride hard to Pyrmont
Right at the lights, sweeping left towards the casino
Dunnies here if you need them. Don't dilly dally.
Moderate climb here
Bit more climbing before it starts to level out before dropping into a sweeping left hander
Short steep climb up Quarry Master Dr. Right at Channel 10.
Steady climb up Miller St, right at the Harlequin
Start climbing here
No more climbing for a bit
Turn right. Sweeping down hill lefty.
Traffic lights. Downhill.
Turn left and then take the first right. Moderate climbing.
Tricky downhill
Quiet, straight back street. It used to be a main road. Go for it.
Short sharp climb.
Still climbing, but it's nearly over.
Climbing over for now.
Fast - get on the big gear. 60km/h plus if you don't have a headwind!
Right-turn means moving across a couple of lanes. Keep on the case!
Quiet from here for a bit.
Dog leg over a ped crossing. Urban bicycleists can do this sort of thing.
The road is blocked but there are gaps for bicycles. There is often a van obstructing the left one, so I tend to take the right. Goose! I hate inconsiderate motorists.
Nice!
Optional - cross the road at the gap in the median strip, get on the footpath and take the shortcut through Edit St. It's a pain if you're in a bunch, though.
Moderate climb
Left at the servo. Ride until the end of the street and turn right at the roundabout.
Right at the roundabout, fast downhill followed by a sharp left.
Right at the roundabout. Most of the on-coming traffic from the north turns left here, so making the right is a piece of piss.
Turn right and then left with the lights
Pedestrian tunnel under the railway because we're urban bicyclists and we can do that sort of thing.
Welcome to the George St drag strip.
Cobblestones. Not indicative of the end.
Turn right onto Parra Rd. One block only.
Stop for a bowl of pho. Those wishing to leave here can get a train from Flemington RS.
Steady climb.
Back streets from here to Summer Hill
Left then immediate right. Tricky.
Right at the roundabout, back in the traffic.
Steady but not odious climb.
Right into the Wilson Street Bicycle Highway.
Left into Regent St. Get across one lane because the left lane turns left.
Back at Martin Place.
