This tour starts with a crossing of the beautiful Connecticut River on the Bissell Bridge bike path, with a glimpse of downtown Hartford, followed by a northward excursion along the river from Hartford to historic Windsor Locks. Along the way, loop through the campus of Loomis-Chaffee School (Island Rd, Batchelder Rd). After crossing back over the river to Warehouse Point, the tour continues through East Windsor, skirting the picturesque village of Broad Brook (take a detour off the route if you wish to stop there for refreshments and see the beautiful mill pond). The remainder of the ride is a semirural tour of shade tobacco farms, ending with a ride down South Windsor's historic Old Main Street. Numerous brief detours are available if you wish more views of the Connecticut River, including the site of historic Bissell's Ferry (visible from both Bissell Ferry Rd in Windsor, and Ferry Rd in South Windsor on the opposite side). Vibert Rd. in South Windsor offers a small boat landing and paths along the riverside. This is a great place for watching water birds and other marsh life.by richharding1
