Boston Colleges Loop

The way points of this bicycle route:

Boston

Start - Park at the Agganis Arena Parking lot....its fairly inexpense. Or Take the T to Packards Corner.

Chestnut Hill

You will follow beautiful Tree lined Commonwealth Ave through Brighton and into the Boston College Neighborhood - Chesnut Hill. You will find yourself looping around Chesnut Hill Reservoir park a beautiful oasis in the metro Boston area. Plenty of shops, stores, and facilities along the route.

You are now at the 2nd college on this loop - BC - or Boston College home of the Eagles.

After going through the BC campus and taking in the sights we will loop back around the south end of Chestnut Hill Reservoir onto Beacon St. Beacon St is another beautiful parkway with tree lined streets.

Brookline

From BC we will wind through Brookline to the Larz Anderson Park with the Auto Museum. Its worth a short stop

We have just ridden throgh Brookline and the world famous Arnold Arboretum part of harvard University. It offers a hill with splendid views of the Boston Skyline. A great spot to stop and rest

From here we continue onto the Arborway which will head back toward Boston and northeastern Univ, our 3rd college on the tour

Jamaica Plain

We will ride past jamaica Pond on the left on the Jamaicaway - JP

We follow the Jamaica Way to the Riverway along the Olmstead park.

Boston

After going back into Boston on brookline ave we pass Wheelock College and Emmanuel College. That makes 4 colleges so far.

Kenmore Square

We are now near kenmore Square at the world famous Fenway Park home of the 2004 World Series Champions the Boston Red Sox. Why not take a Fenway Park tour, or get tickets to sox game for later that night ?

Boston

After circling around Fenway we will make our way toward Huntington Avenue, home of Symphony Hall (boston Pops) and NU - Northeastern University. Along the way we'll loop around WIT - Wentworth Inst. of Technology.

SOUTH END

We'll ride along Aint Botolph St and the South End, a district that is really booming. It has a number of shops, and eateries around the area and is real close to downtown

Boston

We will ride from Northeastern to the Boston Common -Waterfront area, A great stop for restrooms or food/water is Downtown Crossing on Washington St.

The Boston Common is the oldest public park in the United States. The public gardens are some of the most beautiful in the world when in full bloom in the early spring - the tulips come out. Why not check out the swan boats or do some people watching. The Make Way for Ducklings Children's book was based on the island in the center of the lagoon in the Public Gardens

Boston

Check out Quincy Market, the New England Aquarium, Columbus Park, the North End (great Italian Food) etc. This is the heart of Boston you are cycling through. Check out the construction of the Parklands on the Big dig. Take in the sights and sounds of the Harbor waterfont. Ride along the Wharfs on the Harborwalk to Columbus Park.

Cambridge

You will pass the Museum of Science, worth a visit, also check out the planetarium show/imax shows. From here you will get the bike path along lechemere to the Cambridge Galleria Before Cutting through Cambridge towards MIT. Cambridge has some nice bike lanes too.

Boston

Be careful crossing memorial Drive and exiting the BU Bridge Exit ramp traffic moves very fast.

You will pass through MIT then Radcliff College and lesley College

Arlington

From here you will go along the minuteman Commuter Bike way and then loop around toward Medford - Somerville back toward Boston and Boston University

on the board of Medford-Somerville After going along the minuteman trail in Arlington and the Mystic River in Medford you will be at Tufts Unievrsity!

South Boston

You now find yourself at South Boston - you will pass the Black Falcon Terminal and the World Trade Center. The Black Falcon Terminal is where the QEII and other cruise liners arrive and depart and an occasional military ship or tall ship .

South Boston

You will end up at Castle Island which is an old fort , and you can also see low flying aircraft landing across the harbor at logan airport, you will see numerous boat traffic as well. From there you will go down William J DAY Blvd and Columbia Rd, a beautiful portion of the Harborwalk

L ST SOUTH BOSTON

from here you turn right onto L St. In South Boston. This is where the L St. Tavern is that was featured in Good Will hunting . A great place to stop for refreshment Just remember dont drink and bike ;)

BOSTON

From here you wind your way back from South boston to Boston and end up on the Charles River Bike path after crossing the Longfellow Bridge (the one with the Red Line on it). From here you are on the home stretch of the College loop ride. You will follo wthe charles rivr bike path to Commonwealth Avenue (the Mass ave Bridge) and then cross the bridge and go down Comm Ave to BU. And the original parking space at Agganis Arena

BOSTON

you arrive back at Boston University to the parking area total round trip bike mileage for the Colleges loop is 73.9 Miles all inside 128
