The way points of this bicycle route:
Begin at the Dead End section of American Blvd on the West side of Bloomington. Ride onto the 494 Bike Bridge and cross the Minnesota River. If driving here you can park at the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge.
Turn Right onto the switchback bridge that leads down to the Big Rivers Bike Trail. Follow the to St. Paul sign.
Cross Hwy 13 on the trail and turn left at the T with the other spur of Big Rivers Trail. Alternatively you can ride Hwy 13 North.
Cross Hwy 13. Cross traffic does not stop
Turn Left on Water Street under the railroad bridge
The Trail resumes just past the Yacht clubs parking lot. You can either ride the trail or Water Street.
Just after you cross Plato Blvd there is a split ped/bike trail that runs past the Bandshell and up to the Wabasha bridge. Merge onto the bike portion and follow it onto the Wabasha bridge that you can see up ahead with the flags flying on the spans.
Turn left onto the Sidewalk/Bike Lane and cross the Mississippi to downtown St. Paul.
Turn Right on Kellogg Blvd. Quick right on 2nd coming up.
Right on 2nd Street. Caution Sharp right turn and traffic at the bottom of this hill. The hills long enough that you can let the speed creep up and still have time to get it back down for the turn, but don't cannonball the thing.
Right on Jackson under the bridges.
Left on Warner Road
Turn Right into the Park parking lot and merge onto the Bike Trail that runs adjacent to the River Front.
Cross at the Crosswalk and proceed over the bridge. Caution: The crossing on both sides of the bridge is poorly designed. Look carefully for cars and trucks descending to and ascending from Childs Road.
Right on Fish Hatchery Road by the DNR sign.
Merge onto the Point Douglas Bike Trail. Look for the brown sign.
Through the tunnel under Hwy 61 and onto the turn around circle for Point Douglas Road.
Right Turn and continue on Point Douglas Road. There are occasional signs for the Point Douglas Bike Trail....follow them.
Along this section your path is sometimes on a frontage road and sometimes along a bike trail.
Gear Down and get ready to climb up Baily Road
Right on Military Road
Military Road (Hwy 20) becomes 70th Street So. No turns requiried.
Right on St. Croix Trail. The entrance to Afton State Park is directly ahead. There's some services at the Park Office, but be warned it's probably a 4 mile round trip and two climbs to the main part of the Park from this point.
There's no shoulder on St. Croix Trail (it's a road not a trail), however it's a low volume road that attracts allot of cyclist. Couple of good climbs along this section.
St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. Public rest rooms and water available at most times.
Left on Hwy 10 (Point Douglas Road).
This is Point Douglas. Pleasant road side park on your left.
Over the river and into Wisconsin.
Mini Mart here and a couple of Cafe's a block south. For a couple of more days of good riding, turn right and follow Hwy 35 all the way into Illinois.
