The way points of this bicycle route:

Birchgrove

Birchgrove Ferry Wharf. See www.131500.com.au for Sydney Ferry times. Steps to pier. Undercover waiting area for sun/rain. Adjacent Yurulbin Park to relax in while watching the boats and admiring the stunning vista.

L into Cove St. In reverse direction, don't cut the corner as you speed downhill and R into Louisa Rd.

R into Birchgrove Rd.

Balmain

L into Macquarie Terr. Approaching brow of hill, take the lane in preparation to turn second R...

...R into North St. In reverse, watch out here for extremely dipped gutter of Macquarie Terr right across the entrance/exit of North St.

R onto Darling St. Shops, restaurants, library, post office, phone boxes, court house, police and fire stations. ALTERNATIVE. Commuters will turn L here, immediately taking centre of road to turn R at lights and go speeding down Montague St/Mullens St/Robert St to Victoria Rd.

L onto Jacques St.

R onto Walter St. It actually looks like a driveway across the pavement.

Proceed to far end of St, (not partway as drawn here) then L in front of No.1 Walter St, and L round big brick warehouse to end of Barr St. Barr St has a grass median. Use correct side! In reverse, go to end of Barr St and turn left up pathway that appears to be pavement right next to big brick warehouse conversion. Then R and R round the warehouse to Walter St.

R into Elliot St. Immediately take the lane in preparation for R...

R onto Beattie St.

L onto Evans St.

Rozelle

L onto Goodsir St.

R onto Moore St.

R and immediate L onto Crescent St.

Either: R onto Robert St (across 4 lanes of traffic , to left lane) or: dismount, walk up Robert St and use ped crossing at lights to cross Robert St to pavement of Victoria Rd, which is shared.

Mount pavement (which is shared path) at lights at junction with Victoria Rd. ALTERNATIVE IN REVERSE for commuters and those who are fine with traffic on uphills. Use ped lights at jnc with Robert St to cross to L traffic lane of Robert St, then simply follow Robert St/Mullens St/Montague St uphill to Jnc with Darling St.

Beware Peds and Cyclists coming off footbridge immediately adjacent to closed White Bay Hotel carpark. Carry on towards City West Link Rd. R onto lovely (shared) footbridge over City West Link Rd, signposted "Annandale and Leichhardt". Enjoy flying over the cars! L along shared pavement, signposted ditto.

Annandale

Stay on pavement, second L into The Crescent.

L into Chapman Rd. Join carriageway at machinery yard entrance.

Carry straight on when road ends, past vehicle barrier, to join shared path right up against railway viaduct, ie pass between playgrounds and viaduct. Pass under viaduct and go round public toilet to rejoin Chapman Rd carriageway in car park, dropped kerb (constructed a few days ago, yay!) by tree.

Follow road R round warehouse, then L onto road/path with fancy red brick paving going towards canal bridge, but...

R before small canal bridge (onto shared path) to stay on W side of canal. Beware dropped kerb is steep.

There is a "dismount" sign (only in S direction!) for this underpass, possibly due to low height? Flooding? Darkness? No reason at all?

R off canal path opposite second canal crossing, to path joining end of Taylor St. The (inconvenient) dropped kerb has a nasty step.

R onto Booth St.

Forest Lodge

R at roundabout and immediate L into Northwood Lane.

L onto Federation Rd

Through vehicle barrier, across pavement, and R uphill onto Church St.

L into Prospect St.

L and R into Campbell St.

R up Elizabeth St to Princes Hwy.

Dismount and walk L along King St (Princes Hwy) 30 m along pavement, because there is no R turn into Georgina St from King St.

Cross Princes Hwy at lights as ped and walk R, past Day and Night Chemist on the corner, to...

Newtown

Cheeky Monkey Bike Shop, 3A Georgina St. 02 9557 5424. It is on R side of dead end road. Bike racks in the street are just a LITTLE too far from the shop window for easy security surveilance while you spend your money...
