Bike Paths Only - Winston Hills - Crestwood loop.

The way points of this bicycle route:

Winston Hills

Bike paths only circuit to Crestwood and back for traffic free cycling. Alternate starting location at William Joyce Reserve/Col Sutton Park on Baulkham Hills Road - shorter loop for kids. Begin Bike Path at Old Settlement Reserve on Edison Pde. Follow winding path to Cnr Edison/Oaks Rd.

Winston Hills

Left onto Oaks Rd. Cycle path on road - safer for young kids on the footpath.

Winston Hills

Left at Old Windsor Rd. Cross Old Windsor Road at Lights.

Enter cycleway that runs parallel to North-West Bus Transit Way.

Cross under Old Windsor Road. Watch out for mud on path if it has been raining.

Cross Carolyn Chisholm Road.

Cross Gibbon Rd

Winston Hills

Enter cycleway in reserve just after bridge (pye's Crossing). Path follows creek.

Begin series of sharp turns and short sharp steep descents and climbs. Watch for pedestrian traffic. Kids need to take care to stay on track and not end up in the bush!

Cross beneath M2 Free Way.

Enter William Joyce Reserve. Alternate Starting point on Baulkham Hills Road

Watch for steep descent to Toongabbie Creek. Not too fast at bottom or you will end up in the creek!

Cross Under Seven Hills Road

Enter Side track - cycle pathway - through reserve. Watch out for joggers and dog walkers.

Cross Merindah Road - Watch for traffic.

Cross Peel Road. Watch for traffic.

Enter Crestwood Reserve. Watch out for kids on bikes, dog walkers, pedestrians, joggers, soccer matches ...

Wind trhough Crestwood park - Cross over bridge and head towards Chapel Rd

Follow path running uphill parallel to Chapel Road.

Cross Chapel Lane at pedstrian Crossing beside Skateboard Park

Enter side pathway running beside creek.

Enter Mackillop Park. Take left or right fork. Right fork leads to playground then a steep hill, left fork follows creek and is flat (this is the one I usually take).

Path off to right leads to a church carpark ... keep left

Leave Coolack Cress Roadway and climb wiggly steep path through park.

Excellent Cycleway runs parallel to Windsor Road. Turn right here and enjoy long down hill run.

Cross Merindah Road at lights

Take care crossing Palace Road

Enter old tar cycleway (into the trees) Following Toongabbie Creek ... road bikes take care - rough surface in places.

Take left fork and cross creek. Right fork takes you to Vanessa Ave ... you'll end up in same place but its not as much fun.

Pass Terry Burn reserve

Cross Palace Road (again). Path is on right a little up the road heading into the trees.

Take left fork heading down toward creek. Right fork will turn hard right a little further on ... which is the wrong way.

Steep descent and steep climb to cross Toongabbie Creek

Return to Seven Hills Road. Need to cross here. Take care with traffic. You may choose to go down the hill here and cross under Seven Hills Road (as we did earlier). Crossing road here avoids steep descent and even steeper climb.

Follow footpath downhill for about 10-20 metres. Break in the trees (across dirt) here will let you back on the cycle path in William Joyce Reserve.

Return to William Joyce Reserve - Alternate Start/End point. From here you re-trace your steps back to Starting point.

Head back into windy path through bush - watch the speed on the sharp corners.

Back to old Windsor Road - nearly there.

Cross under Old Windsor Road (again)

End of cycle path - About 18 km round trip. Experienced cyclist can easily do loop in less than one hour. Kids will need 2-3 (4 ?) hours with rest breaks for food and plenty of time to play on the swings, throw rocks in the creek, explore tunnels under bridges etc.

Route Details

Great little track for bombing down shared paths - tight corners through trees ... all without leaving the path ... watch the joggers and dog walkers!
