The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at Kangaroo Flat station. Head west along Station Street.
Cross over Calder Highway
Turn left over the creek on to shared path
Leave the path and ride along Crusoe Road at this point
The path leaves Crusoe Road and follows the creek again but it's easier to stick to the road
Right on to the gravel on Carcoola Drive and into the forest.
Right on to Lockwood Road (sealed)
First left on to Brown Road (gravel). There are many unsignposted and unmapped tracks through the forest. Just stick to the obvious main route.
Veer to the right at Bullock Road
Left at Stumpy Gully Track. No signs but it's the first left turn after you hit Bullock Road.
Veer left at the Y-junction
Right on to Rocky Rises Road at T-intersection.
Road becomes sealed after passing Drinkwater Road on your right.
Dogleg right then left on to Wicks Road
Left on to Calder Highway
First right on to Sparrowhawk Road (Google maps has the name as Empire Road- it should be Sparrowhawk Road)
Left on to Derwent Gully Road. Runs parallel to an old water channel (Derwent Gully?) Unsealed road and back into the forest.
Track crosses over the channel around here
Its a bit confusing here as there are a lot of tracks. Cross back over the water channel and ride parallel to it. (It should be on your right)
Left on to Albert Street - sealed
Right at T on to Maiden Gully Road
Left on to Fowlers Road and back into the forest
Follow main track round to the left.
Left on to Bracewell Street (sealed)
Right on to track into forest. Easy to miss the turn - it's just before the fence line.
Track becomes a road - continue straight ahead
Right at junction with Midson Street. Another one that's easy to miss as there are no signs at all. There's a house with a green letterbox on the left.
Left on to Hopkins Avenue
Cross over the Loddon Valley Highway and skirt around the signs on to Leggo Street. BBT sign points to the right along the highway but it's easier to go this way.
Right on to Dunstan Street
Left on to Lethebys Road. You'll see BBT signs again from here.
Veer to the right on to Brewery Road
Left on to Sailors Gully Road
Right into unnamed track at BBT sign and back into the forest
Dogleg left then right over Bendigo Pyramid Road on to unsigned road. The tourist office map shows the trail continuing along the Bendigo-Pyramid Road and taking the next right but the BBT signs point this way.
Look for BBT sign and some single track off to the left
Meet up with main track and proceed straight ahead.
Right on to Sander Road
Left on to Whipstick Road (Or you can turn right and head south for a few hundred metres to the Mulga Bill Bicycle Trail to the Lightning Hill lookout
Right on to unnamed track. Easy to miss, watch for BBT sign
Follow main track around to the right
Right at T on to Loesers Road
Cross over sealed Simpsons Road on to unnamed track. Do not take Naughtons Track
Pick up Millman Road
Right on to unnamed track
Pick up Burnside Road
Cross Howard Street on to unnamed track. You have to go around a gate and past a 'Management Vehicles Only' sign.
Dogleg right across Watson Street and left on to Backhaus Street
Easy to miss track to the left. There are no signs at all but it is a wide, well-made track.
Right on to James Street
Straight through on to Scott Street
Continue along Scott Street for a few dozen metres and stop at the White Hills Botanic Gardens for lunch and to top up with water. Or turn right and head down the Bendigo Creek Linear Park back into Bendigo. Or turn left through the Linear Park to continue on with the trail.
Right on to Howard Street
Cross over Midland Highway
Right on to Taylor Street
Left on to Fairway Drive
Left on to McMahon Place at T-junction.
Right on to unnamed track into the forest
Right on to Boundary Road
Right on to Plant Road
Right on to Victa Road. Very small BBT arrow - easy to miss.
Follow main track around to the right
Left on to unnamed track
Left on to Pratts Park Road
Left on to the O'Keefe Rail Trail
Right on to Markovich Lane
Cross over McIvor Highway and turn right on track that runs parallel to the highway.
Left on to unnamed track after Wildflower Drive
Right on to Strathsfieldaye Road
Left on to Kairn Road
Right on to steep unnamed track up to One Tree Hill
Follow the sealed One Tree Hill Road down to the bottom
Right on to Mandurang Road
You can probably get water in Spring Gully
Road becomes Spring Gully Road
Left on to Burns Street
Left on unnamed track to Diamond Hill Lookout
Left on to Diamond Hill Road
No signs here at all and lots of unnamed tracks. Extensions to the mine have obliterated this part of the trail. Turn right at the Great Dividing Trail sign and head west skirting around the southern end of the mine site. You will probably need to go cross-country and hop over a water channel at some stage.
You'll soon pick up a good quality yet unnamed road heading north. It runs underneath the transmission lines,
You will pick up the BBT signs again here. Veer left on to another unnamed track just over the crest of the hill.
Pick up Golden Gully Road
Left on to Ham Street
Cross railway line and turn left, still on Ham Street.
Finish at Kangaroo Flat station
