by bikeHV

The way points of this bicycle route:

Fort Montgomery

at Bear Mountain circle, by the west end of the Bear Mt Bridge (bridge open to bicycles as of 2008)

Bear Mountain

to visit Bear Mountain State park (perhaps a food stop) or climb Perkins Memorial Drive to the top of Bear Mt -- turn Right at the traffic light.

Left turn onto dirt path to follow NY Bike Route 9 (as of 2008). The dirt surface is sometimes ridable on a road bike with 23 width tires, other times so eroded that it's not worth it, often requires some walking. The alternative of continuing on Rt 9W South has high-speed vehicle traffic, no ridable shoulder at some points, and climbs over a substantial hill.
