The way points of this bicycle route:

Riverwood

This was the route for the July 30 2006 ride to William St. Cyclists assembled 9:00am opposite NSW Premier Morris Iemmas office of his electorate at 48 Thurlow St, Riverwood. Ride left 9:30am sharp. NSW Premier Iemma is also the Member for Lakemba. Cyclists travelled from his office at Riverwood to William St, Kings Cross, to let him know we didn't want cycle lanes removed as a result of the Cross City Tunnel fiasco. Ride returned by a similar route.

Tempe

This is the western carpark for Tempe railway station. If you are going to use Tempe station, remember it has alot of steps, no lift.

This bit of path under the railway goes underwater on many high tides. Low tide on 30/07/06 is 5:23am (0.43m), high tide is 11:32pm (1.32m), low tide again 5:17pm (0.61m). The path should be clear when we pass through.

July 2008 please note that the desal pipeline construction has close part of the path we used in 2006 between here and the bridge over Alexandra Canal. There is an alternate route via the carpark to the north to the bridge.

The start of Coward St. There is a shared ped/bike footpath, but honestly its the pits, lots of driveways to cross, trees and poles to avoid. Weekends there is little traffic along this part of the street, its safer on the road.

Mascot

Traffic lights at intersection with Kent St, continue along Coward St.

Mascot

Mascot station is only about 100m north of this point. Please note the satellite map is more accurate than the street map for this area! There is anew bit of road past the station just north of here. Mascot station is underground. There is both a lift and escalators to the ticket office level underground. Steps from there to the paltforms. There are lifts from the ticket office level to the platforms, but I have found them to be a bit unreliable.

Leave the road and get onto the shared bike/ped path just before the traffic lights. Beware of vehicles approaching from the left.

Centennial Park

The red road is bus only! Watch out for buses especially coming around the bend from the right.

Righto, this could be a difficult spot. With a small group, take them to the west across the crossing. With a large group it may be better to take them to the east, get them to line up on the path beside Moore Park Rd. Choose the right gap in the traffic to get them onto Moore Park Rd, cross ANZAC Pde and South Dowling St with the lights.

Surry Hills

Get into right lane, turn right at lights into Bourke St.

Darlinghurst

Darlinghurst (Kings Cross)

Arrive at Kings Cross midday near those ugly stick and ball sculptures close to the intersection of Victoria St and Kings Cross Rd. The big neon Coke sign is only maybe 20m to the north. We will stop here for Susages Against Stupidity till 12:45pm, then a quick spin on William St and hopefully Kent St We will return to Riverwood via a similar route, leaving Kings Cross 2:00pm. If you want to get the train between Kings Cross and Riverwood, there is trackwork on the Eastern Suburbs line, use a City Circle station.
