The way points of this bicycle route:
From the West Oakland BART station, take 7th Street eastward toward downtown Oakland.
Turn right on Adeline and go under the freeway and BART tracks.
Turn left on third before the bridge when Adeline becomes Middle Harbor Road
Jog right on Brush, then left on 2nd Street
At Clay turn right.
This route is suggested when there are not many people at Jack London Square. There may be pedestrians and you may or may not be allowed to ride your bike through here (I'll update this after I ride this route once). Follow the general roads/parking lots/paths through Jack London Square using common sense.
Go left here after you come around the ?? building, cross the Embarcadero (Street with train tracks in it) and take Webster Street away from the water.
After you cross under the freeway, turn right on 6th, then right again into the Posey Tube. >>!!Use the sidewalk here, making sure not to touch the sooty walls or railings!!<<
Emerge from the tube and cough a couple of times.
Cut left here, looking for cars, cross the ramp and turn right onto Mariner Square Drive.
At Tynan turn left, then immediately right onto the bike path alongside Mariner Square Drive and continue south.
Right on Atlantic Avenue.
Left on Main.
At the parking lot, cut over to the bike path that follows Main Street south.
As you cross Pacific, Main becomes Central Avenue. Soon it will curve to your left.
Back onto the main roadway here where the generous sidewalk/path appears to end.
Right onto Crown Drive, into the new subdivision. Stay to your right until the road ends at a path, where you will turn left and go along the waterfront. This path goes along the "Robert Crown Regional Shoreline"
The path continues alongside Carlsbad State Beach/Shoreline Drive.
At the end of Shoreline the path turns to dirt, so turn left onto Broadway instead.
Right on Bayview.
Bayview turns into High Street as it curves. Turn right onto Otis Drive up ahead.
Right on Otis. Get on the sidewalk-y path, which will soon diverge from Otis Drive.
Turn right on the path that will take you along the shoreline and under the upcoming bridge
Left onto the path to the bike/pedestrian bridge.
When you hit land, turn right and take the small bridge that crosses under the car bridge.
Continue for a while on this waterfront path as it curves halfway around this promontory.
Path now parallels Adelphian Way.
At South Loop Drive, cross Harbor Bay Parkway and continue in the same direction on the bike path, now on the other side of Harbor Bay Pkwy.
At Ron Cowan Parkway, stay on the bikelane that turns left and continues alongside Harbor Bay Parkway.
Cross Maitland and find the bike path/glorified sidewalk on the other side that contiunues along Harbor Way. Now there is a golf course to your left and the Oakland Airport to your right.
At the end, turn right onto Doolittle Drive's bike path.
If you want, turn left and go through the park here. The path will bring you back to Doolittle in a few blocks.
At Swan Way, take the crosswalk and then go left in the direction you came on the path on the other side of the street for about 50 feet until it curves right.
Only cross this bridge of you want a shortcut that saves about 2 miles. We are going to go down and back up this channel, using both sides.
Cross *this* bridge.
Take the bridge to cross this channel, then make your first right onto 66th Avenue
Cross over the interstate.
Right on San Leandro Street.
Arrive at Oakland/Coliseum BART.
