The way points of this bicycle route:
Feeder route from West Aspley, Aspley Grove and Chermside West
Road sensors at intersection of Hamilton/Maundrell are not sensitive to bicycles.
Large roundabout carries dual lane traffic as main vehicle thoroughfare to city
Right turn at top of hill - take care with oncoming traffic
Nice quiet back-streets before the "stormy" Rode Road
Cutting across Rode can be hairy. Traffic usually nose-to-tail so you can "ease over" to the right side of the lane. Some vehicle "rat-runners" take this route too.
Dogleg across Kitchener Road - moderate traffic
Dogleg manouvre across Kitchener Road usually has minimal traffic.
Long medium hill up to Padua College followed by steep downhill with off-camber turn
Careful of this bend - use the brakes or else!
At bottom of hill, wait for traffic lights and head straight across to opposite footpath (slightly right) to meet up with pedestrian/cycle path - uphill - choose the right gear
Steep down-hill with cycle-calming barrier at the end (stay on the brakes). Straight across Gamelin Crescent onto cycle path.
Leave the cycle path onto Gilbert Road - back street with traffic calmers
Take care at the fiveways round-a-bout and get ready for the hill
Take care of the cars trying to do a Peter Brock on the bend. Take the right hand lane as your own ready to go straight ahead at the next lights.
Quiet back-street Noble Street leading to cycle path past/through Downey Park
Follow cycle path to ped/cycle bridge over river
Crossing Herston Road can be hairy 0 you need to get to the footpath directly opposite Hetherington Street
The footpath turns into a cycle path past the entrance to Herston Bus Station.
Cross Gregory Terrace at the pedestrian lights. The path from here into the city depends on where you need to go.
