My wife and I rode this route in 2009 as part of a cross-country tour. There are several stretches along busy Hwy 9 with no shoulder, but otherwise it is a scenic and low traffic route. Note that the initial stretch out of Amherst is on a bike path. There are a lot of hills on the route and some of them are quite steep.by colobikenut
