The way points of this bicycle route:
Sneck Yate Bank - even harder than it looks. Gets steeper as you go up and the worst bit is just before the hairpin.
Can be a very fast descent - watch out for sheep, walkers, oncoming cars, gravel etc
VERY humpy bakc small bridge - you can't see oncoming traffic until they are on top of you. Recommend standing up in the pedals to see over the hump.
Rievaulx Abbey - fantastic sight. Toilets and cafe available.
Rievaulx Bank - another steep climb. Sometime too much tourist traffic coming up with you.
Main road to Stokesley. Wide enough to let traffic past easily.
Newgate Bank - potential for a very fast descent. Watch out for the drain cover in the middle of the road on the apex of the left hand bend near the bottom!
Known to locals as "Chop Yat". This left turn is sharp and you may miss it. Raisdale Road is a minor road. Goes nicely up and down, with potential for lots a gravel in the lowest bits.
Top of Carlton Bank. Look out for gliders, trials bikes, view of Teesside (lovely!). Cafe on the right. Steep descent with sharp bends - take care.
Cattle grid - can be taken at full speed with care.
Alternative route - you can go left to Faceby and from there to the A172. Cuts out a bit of the main road drudge.
Pub here does not make cyclists welcome (or at leas thats what the sign outside says!)
Very steep switchback up. Watch out for downcoming cars on your side and for you wavering across the road onto theirs.
Sheepwash picnic site. Nice in summer. Reservoir just round the corner makes a restful spot to watch people drowning in the freezing cold water in summer.
Crossing the A19! Can be done by keeping to the slip road until the crossing point, then crossing both lanes SB at once. You can see oncoming traffic for a good way off.
Jeaterhouses pub.
Betty's Cafe on your right. Ask for a Fat Rascal and the tea or coffee of your choice!
