ARP Bike Trail to M st bypassing CSUS and Elvas Ave traffic
by BikeSafeSacto

The way points of this bicycle route:

ARP bike trail

Paved bike/ped trail from ARP mile marker 8.5 to the CSUS entrance.

ramp goes down to left, sharp blind corner at bottom with bollards and tree debris (balls/nuts in fall)

CSUS entrance

after crossing this intersection most cyclists proceed on the left-hand sidewalk (against traffic). (there are no bike lanes on J st and the traffic is fast and furious) watch for cylists coming at you and pedestrians on the sidewalk.

east sac

after passing under RR tracks there is a off-ramp from Elvas ave with heavy, fast traffic. slow down and look for cars coming from your left and prepare to stop, they are in far too much of a hurry to stop for you.

watch carefully for traffic heading toward you on J st that is veering to thier right to join elvas ave traffic

east sac

M st has sharrows for mixed auto/bike use and is a very old and established bike route. Police have been known to pass out ~$270 tickets for cyclists rolling through stop signs on M st. not so much for cars doing the same thing....
