9th and 9th to DNR
Pros:
marked bike lane and/or quiet residential for most of route
avoids hills and viaducts
only one left turn each direction
stop lights timed fairly well for my pace
only one large intersection (400S/1000W) not controlled by a stop light
Cons:
0.9 miles on North Temple
10 railroad tracks
frequent train delays, especially at 800S/600W and at 1000W/South Temple (and no good detours-- a long train will block both 800S and 900S, which means going clear to 400S or 1300S to get past the train and I-15). Sometimes you hit the same train at both crossings.
The freeways and the UP&L power plant are major obstacles to anyone approaching DNR from the south on the near west side. As near as I can tell, between 600 West and Redwood, there are only two continuous streets connecting 800 South and North Temple: 900 West and 1000 West. These are also the only ways to get from 200 South to North Temple between 900 West and Redwood.by AvenuesBOB
