The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at Bakehouse Cafe in Moore St, or anywhere along this circular route, taking in 7 major road bridges (and a couple of minor road or foot bridges). Loosely based on the 7 bridges walk route at 7bridgeswalk.com.au.
Right onto Balmain Rd. There is a bike shoulder along here so not too bad to cycle along this fairly busy road.
Turn left after the lights onto the foot/cyclepath down north side of Victoria Rd to Iron Cove Bridge.
Foot/cycle path is narrow for the amount of users. Go carefully and use bell to warn walkers.
Follow sign posted Bike route to Gladesville Bridge. Continues on footpath at first. Can turn right at any cross street, but Day St is probably easiest. Mind bus shelter near Park St. Park St is one way west.
Left onto Renwick. Follow bike route signs.
Right onto Lyons Rd.
Left onto Collingwood St
Left onto Wolseley St
Right onto Victoria Rd footpath. You are supposed to dismount on this initial stretch, so go carefully and watch for residents emerging from back gates onto footpath. Official bike route goes via Wrights Rd, Drummoyne Av and Cambridge Rd.
Footpath joins the official bike route up Cambridge Rd. Long steady climb up to top of bridge ahead.
At end of bridge foot/cycle path, unofficial track down to the slip lane has been fenced off, so have to take a steep detour down path on right to Huntleys Point Rd and back up Keeyuga Rd. Time they built an overbridge.
Rejoins footpath over Tarban Ck Bridge
Take steepish path up to Durham St
Cross Church St (sometimes busy) onto Reiby Rd. Alternative on-road route is to turn left on Church, cross Burns Bay Rd and then right onto slip road heading down to Tarban Ck Bridge.
At end of Reiby Rd walk bike across some grass to start of steep path up to Tarban Ck Bridge footpath. Maybe the alternative route is preferable! RTA and local councils should be ashamed of this poor access for cyclists.
Can continue on narrow to nonexistent footpath along Burns Bay Rd, duck back under the bridge on the Loop Rd, or take steps up to The Avenue.
Steep section.
Just before Burns Bay Rd, turn right here onto footpath. Watch for traffic turning off Burns Bay Rd. You can continue up Burns Bay Rd but it is busy and narrow. Footpath is an option.
Right into reserve. Cross grassy area to dirt path leading north.
Mostly paved path continues around water edge.
Footbridge across creek.
Left on Riverview St. Can also go right but there is a steep climb up to Waruga Pl.
Riverview School.
Roundabout
Karingal Rd ends. Path continues through some nice angophera forest. Need to walk bikes at times.
Path rejoins road.
Right onto Fleming St. Alternative is to use River Rd, which can be fast and busy and is fairly steep, or use River Rd footpath.
Rough rocky path heads off down steeply to Gore Creek. Bikes must be carried. Alternative is to use River Rd, or River Rd footpath, but that is steep, and busy too. Another alternative might be to head up Longueville Rd to Lane Cove and come back via First Av and Ronald Av.
Steps end. Path flattens out, can be ridden.
Bridge here. Road shown on map doesnt exist.
Steepish climb starts.
Footpath starts here. Goes over a bridge.
Path goes past station to Shirley Rd. Can proceed down to Berry Island and the walking track through Reserve but waterfront route involves steep steps and bike carries (particularly up to Horace St past HMAS Waterhen).
This bit untried.
Nice Cafe here for a break.
Visit Balls Head for great views of the City and Harbour.
Take in views from here.
Another good view from end of Larkin St. Also can access a footpath route through Waverton Park to John St. Steps involved. Walking route continues via Sawmillers Reserve, W Crescent St, Parker, E Crescent, Bayview to Lavender Bay, Luna Park and Milsons Point. Otherwise, head along to Woolcott St for a direct route back to Milsons Point.
Harbour Bridge cycleway starts. Bikes must be carried up steps or wheeled up ramp to bridge deck. Wish they'd install a lift!
Cycleway ends.
At end of Upper Fort St path goes over a narrow bridge and here is a ramp down to a footpath next to the roadway leading to Harbour Bridge.
Turn left off path on to Kent St. Watch for turning traffic.
Cross Sussex here or when you can to get on to footpath.
Right here on to foot/cyclepath to Pyrmont Bridge.
OK to ride bikes over Pyrmont Bridge, which is closed to motor traffic. Lots of tourists wandering so ride slowly.
Cross Murray St at lights. Use footpath for a few metres to get past hotel on corner and rejoin road at Union St.
Cross Pyrmont St into a contraflow lane along rest of Union St. Watch for turning traffic and cyclists using the contra flow the wrong way, etc!
Cross Harris St at lights.
Turn right through a gap in median just before Bank St, into Saunders St, past Channel 10.
Cycle ramp up to Anzac Bridge starts here outside Meriton apartment block. Watch for cyclists, pedestrians, taxis parked across the access ramp, cars, etc!
Cycleway over bridge is nice and wide. Good views from top but dont block the path.
Watch for bus stop shelter which partially obstructs the path.
New foot/cycle bridge over Victoria Rd. The 9th bridge?
Cross The Crescent at lights. Watch for turning traffic.
Right onto path through reserve to Railway Pde. (Map is wrong here, Railway Pde is closed to traffic under the rail viaduct)
Rejoins road.
Ride ends.
