The way points of this bicycle route:
Ride on the sidewalk for about 2 blocks
The smallest neighborhood in Pittsburgh (?) - only 18 households
Start of the duck hollow trail - Bruce Willis' "Striking distance" is said to be shot around this area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Striking_Distance
Carry bikes across train track
This hollow has multiple name in the past: Panther hollow, Junction Hollow, the Saline, 4-mile Run, etc. But the proper name should be Junction hollow for the train track junction nearby. Also, Panther hollow should be the one in Schenley Park.
Carry bikes across train track again
In the prime time of Panther Hollow Lake, people used to walk down the stairs from oakland and many other neighborhood to here. But with the coming of car culture, a lot of these stairs are torn off to allow pavement coming through, so the panther hollow lake is not so accessible now
You could get water, food, drinks from here. Restroom is available.
The name comes from the awful stench in this neighborhood due to nearby garbage processing facility in the past. During the contruction of Bloomfield bridge, all the households moved, so there are no one living here anymore
Big thanks to Brett, Matt, and Jake for putting this together. And special thanks for Scott of Bike Pittsburgh for supporting this.
