| Starts from a school parking lot (good place to park) then goes on smoothly pave road towards its 3 big climbs. the first climb is hamburg rd. hamburg starts off easy (5% for about a mile) then turns up sharply in bursts of 10-15% fr another mile. then it flattens out with some steep sections followed by a sligt uphill until the top(about 1 mile). the next big climb is up catoctin mtn (park central rd.) The roads from hamburg to catoctin are fairly pleasant and smooth except for mink farm rd, which has a hard-packed gravel section. Catoctin is the most consistent. it is the about 2.5 miles with a steady 7-10% gradient. It has some parts where it turns steeply (not to bad, maybe 12%). When climbing up, you are readying right alongside camp david! After two long descents (stottlemayer and harp hill rds.) and a fairly hard climb (harp hill rd.), there is coxey brown road, which is by far the hardest climb of the day. It starts immediately with a 10-12% grade and slowly rises to 15-16%. Then you turn a corner | |||||
