Greenwich - Darien coast w view options 2009 NJwandr Oct 17th United States > Connecticut > Stamford 47.6km Recreational, Onroad, Scenic, Touring
Description on Bikely: one-way ride east along the western Connecticut coast from Byram + Greenwich to Darien, mostly avoiding higher-traffic roads, and visiting the best views of the water. Offers several options for riding to the best water views, connecting to train stations, and for avoiding riding on the route 1. Connects from route Westchester Sound Coast -- search Bikely for [lisn2]. For more info and connections see www.roberts-1.com/x/m - routeID [lisn3]. Most people will not want to ride it exactly as in the route - (though we did on one nice summer day) - but it's easy to see how to skip the parts you don't want to try. Detailed labels on points form a cue sheet (click on Show, select Cue Sheet). Positions of points have been tweaked and partly tested for GPS navigation in the East-bound direction. We've only ridden most of this route once so far, so it might have some problems or mistakes -- and it has not checked by us since 2009.
Pound Ridge, New Canaan, Downtown Route (33.5 Mile) trademan4140 Apr 9th United States > Connecticut > Stamford 53.5km
Combo scenic/quite and urban/traffic. The beginning is scenic, and once you get back onto high ridge the route takes you downtown into traffic - NOT recommended around 4:30-6 pm! The route is nice because there's a net increase in elevation at the beginning up to about Pound Ridge, NY, then you have a net descent for the remainder of the trip. Once you do the loop and come back to high ridge you'll be so pumped that you'll just have to do the downtown section! Or you could just loop the Pound Ridge New Canaan Part twice (at the end of Vine Rd go RIGHT instead of left on High Ridge and repeat the loop) for a nice 42 miler. It's nice for training b/c you can tack on 10-mile increments as the Pound Ridge loop is 21 mi and the Downtown/Westover loops is about 12 miles.
