This ride finishes with a ferry ride home. the main climb is long but gradual and good practice for enduring long alpine ascents when still not up to the steeper gradients. Very Very beautiful decsent off the top.

This has a spectacular and tecnical climb through ten hairpins at about 10-12% near the top. The only downside to this ride is the steep tunnel of about 500metres straight up to the resort. The descent is very hairy and should be taken carefully and not at all in winter. We went in early April on a sunny day and there was still plenty of snow beside the road which was melting and making the surfaces wet. But it is a fantastic trip.

You can park your car at Ozzero. Follow the road crossing the SS494 and follow the red 'E1' signs onto a long single track route throught the countryside. You then follow the canal to Abbiategrasso and onto Cassinetta di Lugagnano and follow the canal: Naviglio Grande to Turbigo. You will follow the river Ticino alternating between the canal and the river. Sesto Calende is a tourist spot and a great place to take lunch, full of cafes and bars by the river. Then you simply turnaround and ride all the long way way back! There is a sharp climb after Turbigo, you have been warned, but otherwsie a flat and easy ride.

Leave Como following signs to Moltrasio and keep riding to Argegno where you turn left. Keep riding where you will see signs to CH. The hills are steep but not too bad. Take your passport as you will cross into CH at the top of this climb. You descend very fast (its steep) towards Maroggia. Take the main road towards Mendrisio / Chiasso / Como wehre you will go back over the border to Italy. Stunning views, great ride.

A rough guide from the route sheet and a Recce. Course markings on the day will be essential - not much good on GPS - but should be recorded with one en route in case they repeat it next year. Ghisallo is by far the big climb but there are plenty of mini killers for tired legs. Keep an eye on the convex mirrors used for blind driveway exits and side roads. They work both ways and warn of cars. Hopefully on the day the marshalling will be comprehensive. It's quite an urban ride in places. Forum comments to improve the map are very welcome.
