Toronto to Ajax again xxvii Nov 16th 2011, 02:26 46.9km
Pretty boring route. I nearly got turned around exploring a park shortcut, so after that decided to stick to known roads/trails (as I needed to get to the destination on time).
to route 66 with jonah xxvii Sep 16th 2010, 03:43 37.3km
Avoiding Davenport, Enjoying Hills and Trees xxvii Jun 22nd 2010, 07:46 6.2km
  • Commute
When I'm not in a hurry, this is the route I usually take home from work. Some variations are noted along the way.
Straight down shaw to the waterfront xxvii Jun 22nd 2010, 07:21 4.5km
Shaw St. is one way, going south. It's absurdly easy to get from our place to the waterfront this way. It's also virtually all downhill. Getting back is more tricky.
Toronto to Ajax: queen - waterfront - kingston - church xxvii Jun 22nd 2010, 07:24 58.3km
  • Urban
Riding from my sister's place to my mom's in the dead of night. I tried to avoid riding on Kingston Rd, south of the 401, and find nicer ways in its general direction, though that was not easy in the dark. When I got to Port Union road I purposefully went out of my way north of the 401 and along Kingston Rd through Pickering just to see what it was like. Normally there is heavy traffic, but after midnight it's pretty clear of cars. Despite the darkness, I came across some interesting places. I shall have to investigate more in the light if I get a chance.
Some extra hills along davenport xxvii Jun 22nd 2010, 07:19 7.4km
  • Commute
I live twice as close to my place of work now. I miss the much longer uphill grind I used to have. Davenport is a road that generally runs along the base of a fairly steep (though not very high) hill. So Here's one route home that adds hills.
Ajax - Toronto (Eglinton/Marlee) - lots of parks and odd turns xxvii Mar 24th 2009, 03:09 59.1km
  • Recreational
  • Urban
Riding from Ajax, I was trying to find a route that took me through the most parks as possible, even if it added extra distance. Also I was looking for the best way to get through the don valley area without resorting to the major roads with their busy bridges. It's easy to lose one's way in many of the windy parks, with many trails. Trip took me about 4.5 hours, riding not very strenuously, and getting lost and doubling back several times.

mid-toronto to Ajax via st clair east and rouge valley waterfront xxvii Sep 29th 2008, 11:03 50.8km
This was a spontaneous ride, not planned, so it's a bit chaotic. I'd dropped my keys somewhere on my way home and rode back to find them. Then I kept riding after finding them. It's similar to my other trips to Ajax once i get to Rouge Hill station.
Eglinton & Marlee to Toronto Island, and back via Sherborne xxvii Sep 29th 2008, 11:08 38.6km

Unfortunately I have no time to annotate this one yet. Our path is a little crazy in places, but (sometimes) there were reasons. But for the most part the route turned out pretty good. There were only a few blocks we walked the sidewalks.
norfolk country - delhi xxvii Sep 29th 2008, 03:49 48.9km
  • Recreational
Norfolk country, for the second year, held its "tour de norfolk" bike ride. There were many routes from 15 to 160 km. We took the kids and gramma on the 40 km (but a wrong turn made it 50 km for us). This is truly beautiful cycling country. The roads we were on were in fantastic condition, the farmland was interesting and varied, and the traffic was light. It's worth the trip.
work to darcy work xxvii Sep 29th 2008, 11:05 17.7km
  • High traffic
This route is not very good, but i needed to get up to Victoria Park and Sheppard so this is how I ended up doing it.
Port Severn - Baxter Community Centre water run xxvii Jul 8th 2008, 01:58 3.9km

This is the short ride to the community centre, one of the closest points with a public tap for drinking water when at our family cottage.

An extremely scenic loop from my family's cottage in Port Severn to my friend's cottage near Severn Falls.

A nice ride that turned out to be somewhat longer than expected due to a wrong turn.
eglinton - oconner - pottery - rosedale valley xxvii Sep 29th 2008, 11:06 13.4km
Decided to try an alternate way of getting across the Don Valley. The pottery road hill was pretty scary. I wouldn't recommend it. Make sure your breaks are good if you do.
bathurst - gendon - lawrence - rouge valley - pickering -ajax xxvii Jul 22nd 2008, 04:19 50.7km
  • Recreational
Me in the middle of Toronto, wife and kids in Ajax. What to do? Ride! Mostly across Lawrence (high traffic), but at Rouge Hill it gets more interesting (lower traffic, off road).
ajax-pickering west waterfront with the family xxvii Jun 29th 2008, 01:30 9.9km

  • Scenic
An afternoon bike ride with my mom and the kids. Nearly all on paved multi-use paths. Note around the beginning of the path the web of paths between houses that permiate this area of Ajax. On the way back we went further along the lake shore, and then up (but i didn't want to have to map the path all the way back just to get to the divergent point).
Port Severn to Orillia xxvii Jun 24th 2008, 12:03 34.2km
  • Recreational

A nice, peaceful ride. A lot of it is on the Uhthoff rail trail. The trail trail is mostly dirt tracks, but clear and smooth enough for my hybrid pulling a child trailer. (The google map resolution is not good for this area, so some guesses have been made.)
don valley trail, ashbridges bay park xxvii Jun 23rd 2008, 10:26 37.1km
  • Recreational
An excursion, pulling the kids in the trailer. Besides the horrific downtown part (we walked mostly on the sidewalks) there was amazingly little of the route on roads (from Queen's Quay onwards).
Marlee/Roselawn to Bathurst/Finch xxvii Jun 23rd 2008, 10:25 22.2km

Selena and I, out for a casual ride pulling the two kids in the chariot. (2008-Jun-14) The northward route was inspired by a map by Pedalphile.
Roselawn/Allen to Davenport/Avenue xxvii Jun 23rd 2008, 04:51 12.6km
  • Commute
  • Onroad
  • Low traffic
This is my commute to and from work most days. It is a fast, green, mostly pleasant route that mostly avoids major intersections. It is mostly downhill going south, with some nice up-hills going north. I actually like the up-hills after work. The exertion perhaps relieves stress.
