| This route has most of the components of the route described by Will but some crucial adjustments have been made in order to minimise the total length, risky right hand turns, and total turns. I don't think we're likely to be able to secure actual "stops" for the route, but we can do a big slow down next to the London Eye and also at London Fields. There's no harm in asking about using some location by St Pauls (for instance walking the bikes to Paternoster Square), but I doubt we'd get permission for that. Likewise, we could ask for use of Jubilee Gardens (the park by London Eye). So far, many places I've approached have balked at the prospect of hosting us even briefly since we could upset people and we don't bring them any income. Finally, I've tried to design a route that will allow the stewards minimal work, and should make it possible for the ride to work even if the stewarding is less successful than desired. I think this is important since we won't have any authority to stop traffic, and we'll only be authorised to stop the ride for regrouping. Safety issues on this route - A) Waterloo Roundabout (as always), B) crossing Kingsway (*if this isn't safe enough, we can always travel High Holborn to Endell St to Bow), C) The transition past Trafalgar Square to The Mall should be smooth enough if the ride stops and waits for a green light, D) the new finish at Wellington Arch has yet to be tried, but I think it will work. I don't see any right hand turns on busy two way streets, so this route should be fairly safe. |

| After many attempts to make a more direct route that followed the landmarks described, I've allowed Bikely to come up with the most direct route it could determine. Unfortunately, this route has a lot of turns, but most of these are not right hand turns on busy routes. The really dangerous turn is at Blackfriars onto Queen Victoria Street. I would suggest crossing Blackfriars instead and following the traffic pattern where the traffic merges briefly and avoids a sharp right hand turn. |
