Back route to Walnut Grove ugaritic Sep 30th United States > Missouri > Springfield 40.5km Low traffic, Safe, Rural, Scenic
Avoiding the trail except where paved in Willard, this route is probably the least hilly way to avoid HWY 123, take low traffic back routes, and make it from Springfield to Walnut Grove. It is out and back the same way (it looks different coming back), so call it 50 miles from Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. Call it 1271 feet of vertical (for the round trip). By the way, the Bikely tracker does not track the trail, but I use the paved portion through Willard, not the road. I add a few miles, and from my house it ends up being 60 miles. Ritter Willard Ebenezer McDaniel Hills ugaritic Sep 30th United States > Missouri > Springfield 71.5km Low traffic, Safe, Rural, Scenic
2018 ft. of vertical. Beginning at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, this route gets quite hilly after a warmup of 2-3 miles. The route is low traffic and beautiful! I get water at the McDonalds at FR 103 and HWY 160, a church at the corner of Z and FR 34, and at the old church in Ebenezer.
McDaniel Hills 1 ugaritic Aug 16th United States > Missouri > Springfield 28.1km Training, Steep, Safe, Scenic
17.5 mi from my house, lots of good hills, some 12%. A warmup for a few miles, then a hill, then about 2 miles to recover, then another big hill, and so forth. Out and back. Make it 12.5 mi if you begin at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. My favorite short training ride. I have gotten up to 49.9mph on the big dip on FR 159.
Larry's Bridge 45 mi ugaritic Aug 16th United States > Missouri > Springfield 72km Intermediate, Rural
Hillcrest Presbyterian Church to Elwood, to "Larry's Bridge", to Bois D'Arc, to Willard, and back. 1024 feet of vertical (biggest climbs in the middle). 1st 1/3 and last 1/3 not very hilly.
McDaniel Lake Hills 2, 16.6mi ugaritic Aug 16th United States > Missouri > Springfield 26.6km Training, Steep, Low traffic, Safe, Scenic
758 ft of vertical. 16.6mi, starting at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. Some long, steep climbs. followed by a chance to recover.
Fellows-McDaniel-W of Springfield Hills 27 or 32 mi ugaritic Aug 16th United States > Missouri > Springfield 51.3km Training, Steep, Low traffic, Rural, Scenic
Counter-clockwise from my house, there are some good hills on this route, especially from the mid-point. If you leave from Hillcrest Presbyterisn church, knock off 5 miles. 1360 feet of vertical.
Fair Grove-Marshfield-Strafford 54mi ugaritic Aug 15th United States > Missouri > Springfield 87.4km Training, Low traffic, Rural, Scenic
An up-and-down route. Quite scenic. Begin at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church.
