Nice loop, majority of ride is on MUP (Marine Drive MUP, Eastbank Esplanade, Springwater Corridor). I usually start near the Gateway Fred Meyer, ride counter-clockwise but you'll want to take into account the wind along the river, modify the direction so that you have a tailwind along Marine Dr.

From Gateway Transit Center in East Portland to Scapoose, Mist, Clatskanie, and back on US30. The side loop from the St. Johns Bridge up Germantown Rd to Skyline Blvd. is optional and will save you some climbing if you skip it. I have not ridden this route yet, it's one of my summer 2009 goals.
