| The plan was to meet at the Jack Roper Reserve (off Camp Road) at 1000 hours. Two members were in attendance, Alan as the Ride Leader/Chief Navigator, and Ken. Around 1020 we headed off towards the Jacana Railway Station, and met with Isaac who was on his way to the Jack Roper Reserve after utilising the Metro train service to Jacana. The three of us then rode the pathways right through to the Craigieburn Shopping Centre. The only exciting issue was when Ken had a puncture, after passing through one of the below road culverts, where our youths had had a fine time breaking glass bottles. Two patches and grease covered hands later, we continued onwards to the Craigieburn stop. The return journey was uneventful. Once Ken and Alan reached the turnoff to the Merri Creek Trail, we went along the trail to sight the bridgework that was underway, to provide a shared pathway that will (hopefully) not be impacted on when the Merri Creek floods from time to time. The ride completed at 1620 hours local. |

| Ten attendees, with nine participating HPVs today - One Recumbent Tandem, Two (normal) Bicycles, One Recumbent Bicycle and Five proper HPVs - Tricycles. The ride was uneventful, and proceeded from the Woodend Railway Station, to a muster at Tylden. From Tylden, we proceeded to the Main Street of Trentham, and the majority of us had lunch at the Rotunda in the main shopping strip.
The local Bakery was at 'full speed ahead' looking after the tourists that were out and about for Mothers' Day.
A different route was selected for the return ride, and we separated into two groups - the 'hares' and the 'tortoises'. The return journey was via Trentham East, and then through Ashbourne, with a reasonable down hill run back to the Woodend Station.
The ride to Trentham was on a good quality rural road, but there was a high level of traffic. The return route was much quieter from a traffic point of view. However, a few of us will be reminded a little bit more than gently that this route was a little on the hilly side.
Jana was the sole lady representative today. No doubt the balance of our lady participants were with their families, and being spoilt on the occasion of Mothers' Day.
The ride totalled 45.6 kms on the Garmin 705 Sports GPS. |

| The OZHPV and Bicycle Victoria's over 50's group meet around 1000 hours at St Kilda Pier. This morning is a 'come and try a recumbent day'. Around 1100 hours, we muster, and head off via the cycle way adjacenet to the beach on Beaconsfield Parage. Another muster is completed at the roadway leading to Station Pier. From here, the group rides to Todd Road, and then along Lorimer Street, and accross a pedestian/cycle bridge to reach the Docklands' developments. Again at Docklands, we muster. From here, we then ride along New Footscray Road, Hyde Streeet, and along the banks of the Yarra River to the Band Rotunda at Williamstown. At this point, lunch is taken.
At approximately 1330, we again muster, and travel back along a similar route, to Docklands. We stop there for coffee/cakes. After being re-hydrated and nouished, we then ride back to St Kilda. Various options exist, and on this ride, we took the cycleway that is adjacent to the Port Melbourne Light Rail (read Tram) line. This brings us back to the first muster point, near Station Pier. After working out who has dropped off the return journey, we then go back to the starting point, folloing Beaconsfield Parade, to the St Kilda Pier. At this point, we wish each other well, happy riding, and then await advice of the next weekend's ride details to arrive in Thursday's e-mail droppings.
The journey is 46 kms - according to the Garmin 705 GPS. |
