This is the Ickenham to Ealing leg of London Freewheel/Skyride used in 2007-2009 (devised by Stephen Ayres?). I've entered it from memory.

Ridden 17-Oct-09. Ebury cycle track is a disused railway line with variable surface (sturdy bike needed if travelling at speed). Ideal for small children. It travels through a nature reserve - isolated in parts. The return along the tow path needs more competent cyclists due to the rough surface and danger of getting wet. Where the tracks cross on a bridge with access between levels. There is a track of Ebury Way pointing to Cassiobury Park before you get to Vicarage Road, apparently running parallel to Greenhill Crescent and via Ascot Way. Not tested this, but looks like it would make the route almost traffic free

There's no way to avoid fast horrible roads on this one, but it has been done where possible. Alternative train leg in notes for after dark, without which you'll need a strong headlight. Avoids Rickmansworth Hill

Shortest practical route avoiding hills. Moderate traffic, but not generally too fast - and avoided where possible,

Avoids high-traffic roads where possible, although unavoidable. Been using this route for over 30 years.
Pinner Green to Hemel Hempstead fjl Sep 22nd 2009, 12:45 22.1km

  • Low traffic
Smart way to get from Pinner Green (or North Harrow/Northwood Hills) to Hemel Hempstead using as few fast roads as possible. Used for many years. Using faster roads saves a couple of miles overall, but is much less pleasant.

This is the smart route from Central Pinner to Central Harrow. The planners would have to cycling down the A404 - not much fun! It does involve a push through a park where it's currently not legal to ride. Unpleasant cycling roads (high traffic/parked cars) avoided where possible.
