| Ballan Steiglitz Anakie Lara day tour | davnel | Jul 4th | Australia > Victoria > Bacchus Marsh | 69.2km | Recreational, Onroad, Smooth, Intermediate, Offroad, Low traffic, Rural, Scenic |
| A mostly on-road, mostly low-traffic, mostly downhill (even if subtle much of the time) day ride. Slow down and enjoy a section through the Brisbane Ranges National Park, and the historic, near ghost town, Steglitz. Take lunch, there's no food or water after Ballan until Anakie. This ride was described by Ray Peace in "Bicycling Around Victoria", Lothian, 1991. | |||||
| Seymour Highlands Caveat Ruffy Tarcombe loop | davnel | Apr 20th | Australia > Victoria > Melbourne | 100.7km | Recreational, Onroad, Intermediate, Low traffic, Rough, Safe, Rural, Scenic, Touring |
| A really nice day ride out of Seymour - about 8 hours. Great views, bush, rolling farmland, rocky outcrops and creek, plus a few splashes of autumn colour in April/May. There's the possibility of really good coffee and cake (or even late lunch) in Ruffy Fri-Sun but otherwise no services or drinking water available, carry what you need. About 40 km is unsealed road - can be reduced with a few alternatives. Fine on a touring bike (I'd be curious to know where I picked up the dozens of bindiis... probably stuffing around Seymour at the end). The Highlands are a delightful place to cycle; quiet, little traffic and quite beautiful county. Amazing when it's green. Possibly magpie hell in spring. But a real cycling treat. | |||||
| Warrnambool to Camperdown via The Sisters and Glenormiston | davnel | Mar 29th | Australia > Victoria > Warrnambool | 91.6km | Recreational, Onroad, Smooth, Intermediate, Low traffic, Safe, Rural, Scenic, Touring |
| A gentle, quiet county-road ride. I'm starting to replace parts of the Warrnambool train trip with backroads bike rides. | |||||
