| My wife and I rode this in 2009 as part of a cross-country tour (west to east). From Taunton to Buzzard's Bay, the route is quite nice - generally a moderate traffic volume and good roads. As you approach the Bourne Bridge, the traffic increases substantially. Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL as you take the ramp onto the bridge - you need to get on the bike path/sidewalk before you get close to the bridge. Otherwise you will find yourself - as we did - prevented from reaching the sidewalk by a chain link fence. You will be forced to either ride in the traffic lane or get onto the sidewalk while in the traffic lane. Either way, that is a very scary experience. | |||||

| My wife and I rode this route in 2009 as part of a cross-country tour. There are several stretches along busy Hwy 9 with no shoulder, but otherwise it is a scenic and low traffic route. Note that the initial stretch out of Amherst is on a bike path. There are a lot of hills on the route and some of them are quite steep. | |||||

| My wife and I rode this in 2009 as part of a cross-country tour. It carries a fair amount of traffic, but US 20 has a good shoulder virtually all the way. Note that, in Albany, getting onto the Mohawk Hudson bike path and pedestrian bridge over the Hudson River is a little tricky. | |||||

| My wife and I rode this route in the Fall of 2010 as part of a multi-state tour. This allowed us to connect from the Suncoast Trail to the Pinellas Trail. The route is urban/suburban with a good deal of traffic. There are decent shoulders from the exit off the Suncoast Trail to CR 582. From there into Tarpon Springs there are no shoulders and a lot of traffic. However, CR 582 was undergoing a widening project when we rode it so it is possible the finished roadway will have a shoulder. Nevertheless, be careful when riding that section in particular. | |||||

| My wife and I rode this route in the Fall of 2010 as part of a multi-state tour. US 49 from Hattiesburg to Wiggins is a busy 4-lane highway (it thankfully now has a good shoulder however). We got off the highway as soon as possible, riding through Fort Shelby. From that point on - with the exception of a few more miles on US49 into Wiggins - the route was very rural and very scenic. North and east of VanCleave (junction of Hwy 15 and RR Bridge Creek Road), we picked up the ACA Southern Tier route into VanCleave. | |||||

| My wife and I rode this route in the Fall of 2010 as part of a multi-state tour. Once you leave Fort Smith, US 71 becomes a busy 4-lane highway but has a good shoulder for about 15 miles. Then -for the next roughly 30 miles - it gets a little ugly. The road narrows to a 2-lane and the shoulder width varies constantly - from barely adequate to none whatsoever. A few miles north of Waldron the good shoulder returns. So BE CAREFUL! | |||||

From High Springs south to the Marion County line (about 10 miles north of Dunnellon), US 41 has a good shoulder and runs through mostly rural areas with little traffic. The shoulder disappears at the Marion County line and the traffic picks up significantly, so be careful and you may want to consider alternate routes into Dunnellon. Just south of Dunnellon you can pick up the Withlacoochee State Trail to go further south. | |||||
