Pacific Coast cycle tourists can bypass a boring section of the Oregon coast with a challenging but spectacular low-traffic all-paved diversion inland to the high Cascades. Starting in Reedsport, climb the Umpqua river to the rim of Crater Lake. Descend the Rogue River and cross the Klamath mountains, returning to the coast at Gold Beach. This sparsely populated corner of Oregon has spectacular scenery and far less traffic than the coast highway. Carry lots of food and water, and mind the elevation profile!!!
