| This route has quite a fair amount of tarmac, and some steep tarmac climbs. It includes a very pleasant meander along the tarmaced road up the Harthope Valley, some well surfaced if stoney tractor tracks some of which are real granny gear grinds, and a couple of stretches of nice bridleway. Nowhere is there anything really 'technical', although the narrow deep sheeptracks can be difficult and I would suggest the alternative route some 200 mtrs further up the tarmac towards Langelyford. Most of the route is very easily navigated. The uploaded GPS file is accurate to about 5 m. each side of the trail. |

| This route uses the delightful DEFRA scheme financed permissive bridle path through Shawdon Dene, includes a stiff road climb, follows a bridleway through Titlington to the Access land and back via Beanely (Just()y's new home. It has good views and only one really stiff climb. |

| This route follows the green lane/drove road up to the hill fort, bears right across the hill and returns via the gully and duck pond, more hill forts and down the bridleway to Ingram Farm
At the duck pond you can wonder at the awe inspiring nature of the subgalcial meltwater gully as researched by Chapman et al. in the 1960's in their seminal works on fluvioglacial processes in the Cheviots, work undertaken under John Sharpe, to whom I am indebted for an appreciation of the Cheviot |

| This route misses out the A697, but does involve a stiff climb on a very poorly maintained (for cycles and none 4*4's) track. In my opinion it's a valid alternative as it passes a good example of an iron age hill fort, and has a nice exhilarating downhill to Ingram, with great (Doddington's) ice cream available in the summer. |

| A suggested alternative to the Ingram, Roddam, Ilderton bit of NCN route 68.
Some off road but nothing 'technical' (and NO FORD). You might like to try accessing http://s637.photobucket.com/albums/uu97/sadoldsamurai/Brandon%20to%20Ilderton%20braid/ for some photos of what to expect. Happy mudplugging! And thanks again to Derek Purdy of 'The Northumberland Mountain bike guide' fame. |
