| 20km (12.5 miles), 663m (2175ft) of climbing, 2-3 hours ride time. Pure rolling moorland with just a short warm up and cool down on the Tarmac - get ready for a high-energy ride. | |||||
| WMB 86 North Pennine Beginner (Blue) Ride | Matt Skinner | Jul 7th | United Kingdom > England > Penrith | 10.4km | Recreational, MTB, Basic, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 10km (6.2 miles), 236m (774ft) of climbing, 1-2 hours ride time. A superb all-weather blast that takes in some of the highlights of the Nent Valley, without hitting the moorland trails. | |||||
| WMB 86 North Pennines Classic Ride | Matt Skinner | Jul 7th | United Kingdom > England > Penrith | 32km | Recreational, MTB, Steep, Difficult, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 32km (20 miles), 981m (3219ft) of climbing, 4-6 hours ride time. Navigation issues: the moors are a place where even skilled navigators can lose their way. With few landmarks and a mix of trails on the ground - often unrelated to bridleways on the map - it's easy to go wrong. Get used to reading contour lines and looking for the shape of the land from the map, especially spurs, summits and valleys, as this will help you find your way. There are no decent guidebooks to this area so if you want to explore, get an OS map and a compass and be bold. If you want a big challenge then Cross Fell is not far away. That's the highest peak on the Pennine Way, and you can loop round it from this side; if you're ready for a huge descent into the Eden Valley then climb back over Hartside Pass. | |||||
| WMB 85 Exmoor Classic Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 35.2km | MTB, Steep, Difficult, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 35km (22 miles), 1373m (4505ft) of climbing, 3-5 hours ride time. This route is punctuated by several long climbs where decent fitness is a real bonus. There's also a mix of fast grassy, rooty and stony descents, plus stretches of easier ridge riding to recuperate. Start/finish: Minehead promenade (grid ref: SS 973 463). | |||||
| WMB 85 Exmoor Intermediate (Red) Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 21.1km | MTB, Steep, Intermediate, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 21km (13 miles), 957m (3140ft) of climbing, 2-3 hours ride time. This route follows a figure of eight. It kicks off with a big climb, followed by a fast, rocky and at times technical descent. There's some great singletrack, plus a lot of climbing for such a short ride. Start/finish: Horner village car park (grid ref: SS 898 455) | |||||
| WMB 85 Exmoor Beginner (Blue) Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 12.4km | MTB, Basic, Intermediate, Offroad, Scenic |
| 13km (8 miles), 533m (1749ft) of climbing, 1.5-2.5 hours riding time. The first half of this route involves a climb, first on a quiet backlane and then a forest track. After a fast descent, some woodland trails and a brief push through a technical passage, it's a great descent back into Dunster. Start/Finish: Dunster Yarn Market (grid ref: 991 438) | |||||
| WMB 84 Cairngorms, Scotland Beginner (Blue) Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > Scotland > Aviemore | 12.4km | Recreational, MTB, Basic, Offroad, Rural, Scenic |
| 12km (8 miles), 187m (614 feet) of climbing, 2 hours ride time. The hardpacked trails and well drained tracks through the forest make this route ideal in all conditions except thick snow. Start/finish: car park next to Bothy Bikes, Inverdruie, Aviemore, (grid ref: NH 901 110). | |||||
| WMB 84 Cairngorms, Scotland Classic Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > Scotland > Aviemore | 38.4km | Recreational, MTB, Offroad, Rural |
| 38km (24 miles), 476m (1562 feet) of climbing, 4-6 hours ride time. The hardpacked trails and well drained tracks make this route ideal in all conditions except thick snow. After heavy rain or snowmelt the river crossings will get deeper, but should remain passable. Start/finish: Car park next to Bothy Bikes, Inverdruie, Aviemore (grid ref: NH 901 110). | |||||
| WMB 84 Cairngorms, Scotland, Intermediate (Red) Ride | Matt Skinner | Jun 10th | United Kingdom > Scotland > Aviemore | 8.9km | Recreational, MTB, Intermediate, Offroad, Rural, Scenic |
| 9km (6 miles), 231m (758 feet), 1-2 hours ride time. A hardpacked trail at first which holds up well in all conditions. The climb turns to doubletrack that's still solid and well drained, but at the top the singletrack gets muddy after rain or snow. We chose one of several possible descents down Creag Dhubh - check Trailmaps or just explore on the ground for other ways down this summit. Start/finish: Car park in Inshriach Forest, Inverdruie (grid ref: NH 836 024). | |||||

This has singletrack, stony doubletrack, and a couple of tough technical climbs. It is also has one of the best descents in the area. Rated red, with a black descent down the Fox and the Belt Ash. | |||||
| WMB 83 Ambelside, Lake District Beginner (Blue) ride | Matt Skinner | Apr 17th | United Kingdom > England > Kendal | 15.4km | Recreational, MTB, Steep, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |

| WMB 82 Quantocks Intermediate (Red) Ride | Matt Skinner | Mar 12th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 17.8km | Recreational, MTB, Smooth, Steep, Intermediate, Offroad, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 17.9km (11 miles), 528m (1700ft) of climbing, 1.5-2 hours ride time. This route focuses more on the southern parts of the Quantocks, with a bit more tree cover, so it's less exposed on windy days. Start/finish: Car park at bottom of Holford Combe (grid ref 155 411). | |||||
| WMB 82 Quantocks Beginner (Blue) Ride | Matt Skinner | Mar 12th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 11.4km | Recreational, MTB, Smooth, Basic, Offroad, Rural, Scenic |
| 11.4km (7 miles), 179m (590ft) of climbing, 1-1.5 hours ride time. This is a short loop on mostly easygoing - but occassionally rocky - trails, with not too much climbing. It's pretty much immune to the vagaries of weather, but you may not want to hang around too long on the exposed ridge if it's nippy. Start/finish: Triscombe Stone car park (grid ref 163 359). | |||||
| WMB 82 Quantocks Classic Ride | Matt Skinner | Mar 7th | United Kingdom > England > Taunton | 25.7km | MTB, Steep, Intermediate, Difficult, Rough, Rural, Scenic |
| 26km (16 miles), 813m (2670 feet) of climbing, 2-4hrs ride time. The Quantock's free-draining nature makes this an all-weather ride. Some stretches in the combes may get a bit sticky and the river crossings can get fairly deep in the wet, but that's about it. Start/finish: Car park at bottom of Holford Combe (grid ref 155 411) | |||||
