SANDAG - Coastal Rail Trail avoiding Rose Canyon |

| This route follows one of my favorite parts of my recreational ride up La Jolla Colony Dr., Palmilla, Arriba, Cargill. Nobel and Genesee are sketchy, but this routing would connect with the planned multi-modal transit center at UTC mall. The mall is also funding a mobility study, and maybe that study will come up with some neat way for cyclists to get across La Jolla Village Dr. to Executive Way. This route is a half-mile shorter than the proposed Rose Canyon bike path, and if it went straight up Regents would be one mile shorter. Some sections of it, such as Arriba & Cargill, could become bicycle boulevards. I'd also suggest Nobel to become a bicycle boulevard since it connects two dense areas on either side of I-5, and it parallels the more heavily congested La Jolla village Dr. |

| Getting people to replace 1- or 2-mile car trips with bike trips is really important. This 2-mile stretch of Governor Dr. should be an ideal place for this type of trip, but riding on Governor can be intimidating for casual or inexperienced cyclists, and dangerous for kids. Some places have bike lanes, but then the lane disappears, lanes are sometimes narrow and sometimes wide, cars drive too fast. Fortunately, the sidewalks provide a pretty good alternative for kids and others to ride. The sidewalks are wide west of Radcliffe but are pretty narrow east of there, especially around Genesee, and there are often conflicts between peds and bikes. The Genesee intersection itself is unsafe for pedestrians crossing (I won't let my 10-year-old cross it by himself). Between the lack of safe bike space on the road and this unsafe intersection when crossing on the sidewalk, there are a lot of barriers to bike mobility here. It would be great if there could be a safe, consistent bike path or lane for the full length. |

| PCH should be a main way to get from Mission Bay and points north in to Downtown San Diego and Uptown. But there are several problems - the biggest is the intersection with Barnett in the southbound direction. Narrow, tunnel-like, and scary when you have to merge with the Barnett traffic (as I remember it, since I've avoided this intersection for years). The drawing tool tried to throw in a jog around this intersection, but it doesn't seem real feasible either. This whole interchange should be re-engineered to make it safer for bikes. Other problems include the narrow bridge over the 5, and diagonally parked cars north of Taylor/Rosecrans that stick out into the NB bike lane. |
