The section from Kinloch to the A923 is very quiet. There are some nice wooded bits and you also pass right by Loch Lowes. The section on the A923 involves a steep climb (in both directions) and the road is quite busy as well. The section from the A923 to the A9 is a bit busy although it is a part of a National Cycle Route. Along the A9 itself, there is a separate cycle path so that is quite convenient. In Pitlochry there is a great cycle shop called Escape Route which rents mountain bikes and road bikes. The section between Pitlochry and Dunkeld on the B road is quite and has some good views as it goes high up the hills.

Both halves of the route involve a fair bit of climbing to get to the moor but the moors are absolutely great. The second part (the northern bit) is particularly beautiful. Also, on the way you can pass the Hermitage castle.

The route is fairly hilly although not too many steep gradients (except for the bits near the England-Scotland border). The roads are fairly quiet and there was hardly any traffic at all.
