---I have a torn disc and several herniations. The more I ride, the better my back feels. My full suspension mountain bike was very kind to my back through thousands of miles, until I cracked the frame... Now I need a new bike, which I will use mostly on sidewalks and paved paths, some gravel/dirt, about 100 to 150 miles a week, recreational/fitness, 20 to 50 miles a ride.
---I am considering a switch to a hybrid, to go a bit faster and a bit further. I would also like to carry camping gear-tough with full suspension.
---Two questions: Would the hardtail be tough on my back? Hybrid or mountain, what brand/models would anyone recommend for the uses I've given, for about $500-1000 u.s.? thanks.

I fractured my L3 and L4 vertabre... I'm back riding my road bike about to race in late June/early July. I found riding a few weeks after the injury that cycling was possible, but still painful taking in the bumps etc..., but besides that it was not so bad. I suggest sticking to paved roads to avoid jaunty bumps and more pain. What bike, its up to you, a hybrid would work better on roads, less bulky compaird to a MTB, and a road bike might be too harsh on your back- you might want a hybrid that can absorb some bumps

    Good luck!
