I'm looking for a good set of cycling gloves that will last more than 1 Century. I've tried gel gloves and destroyed them after about 170 miles of use (the gel palm pad rips off). I currently have a set of Louis Garneau glove which are a bit thin and have worked well enough for a Metric but I doubt the comfort for a Century. I have 2 sets of Specialized gloves from 1995 (made from pig hide) that are on their last legs. So far all the new gloves are really thin leather (or leather like) or gell filled. Are there any real century glove still availalbe or am I going to have to buy leather and sew on a proper palm to the cheaper gloves?

Sounds like you might have a much more energetic riding style than I do, but I've been using a pair of Cannondale gloves for over 3000 kms and they're almost like new. For what it's worth ...

The gel gloves that disintegrated were Cannondale gloves. Right where the gel pads were they ripped. The leather is just too thin. I don't know about being energetic but I don't leave my hands in one spot for very long. I do ride about 8K kms per year.

I purchase 2 pair of Performance Bike Century Gel Gloves. They seem to feel OK, they have a tight pad and feel like they'll last, we'll see. They appear to be much sturdier than my wife's gel gloves (she's just getting up to speed on longer rides).

Recently I purchased Tuff gloves. They are amazing in comparison to the bg gloves I used to have. They would certainly last a century or two.

Try a pair of rigger / workman gloves from Ironclad. I wear a pair that do about 100km a week and they are like new. It might sound crazy, but they are dayglo orange for extra visibility, they are as tough as nails and they even have a sweat pad on the pack.

    Give them a go

Like uspl, I favour leather roper's/rigger's gloves. I've also worn old motorcycle gloves left over from my biker days. IMHO, if you need gel-padded gloves, it's an indicator that you're putting too much weight on your hands, and you might have a bike fitting problem.

I have two pairs of Specialized "body geometry" gloves bought in 2000 that between them have over 55,000 km of biking in them. I also have one pair of the long-fingered version of these for cold weather. They've stood the test of time and go in the laundry regularly. The snot patches on them that used to be black are now light grey, but the gel pads, the leather palm/fingers, the backs and the stitching have held up remarkably well.
