I was wondering who takes care of abandoned routes -- where the OP is no longer around and perhaps the location is wrong, or the flags could be improved. It seems that the site could be a little more Wiki-like in this respect?

    Kevin,

Look way back for a discussion on deleting routes. The idea discussed at that time was that time was for users to give a ratings on routes (this was before ratings existed). If a route had more than X ratings and a average score of Y. It would be a canidate for deletion by an Admin (Jules).

Hmmm, I wasn't thinking of deleting them. I just was thinking of keeping them up-to-date. Of course, a lot can be done with the comments fields.

Sounds like I'm coming late into a lot of things; I'll try to do some reading in the archive.

(BTW, this site seems to be growing at a rate of more than 2,500 routes per month!)

    Kevin,
To further the conversation. I don't think other users should be able to alter the content of other users.

As an example, remember that route you looked at the other day in the Twin Cities in which I asked the author why he routed along Lake Street instead of the Midtown Greenway. In my opinion it's a bad route and if anybody used it they'd have a poor experience, however I don't think I should be allowed to just pop in and adjust that guy's route because I think there's a better way. He wrote it that way for a reason. Maybe he thinks dedicated bike infastructure is an afront to cyclist rights, so he'd never recommend that anybody utilize any of it. Imagine if I adjusted his route onto dedicated infastructure. He'd be agast. :)

Same goes the other way. I wouldn't want anybody to be able to change any of my routes and still have them carry my name. If they want to show a better way than mine, submit it as a new route.

    What are your thoughts.

Well, and I finally remembered that there is and need be no _one_ right route. There can be several variants (even dozens) on the same route. The "rate this route" will be a big help in managing such data overload. (more comments elsewhere)

And as far as an old or out-of-date route goes, there is nothing to stop anyone from downloading a copy and uploading it as a new route with changes.
